I went for a drive yesterday out of town a bit and came to a roadside sign DUCK EGGS
Never had them before so I thought I had to get some of that. I went up the drive and was met by the friendly farmer. I got a dozen. A few whoppers and mostly a bit bigger than a regular egg. They are a longer oval shape. I made an omelet today. The eggs have a more rubbery under-shell lining and the whites had a slightly more gelatinous consistency. The yolks are slightly bigger than chicken eggs. But the taste was rich and delicious.
I had asked if they were free range and he pointed to the paddock and there they were around the dam in the lush cowpasture. They had to be the freest range eggs around.
If you can stop off at Picton its on the left coming in from Sydney on the Old Hume Highway. (Go down the M5, Turn right to Narellan, past the Mt Annan Botanical Gardens then left to Picton). Its a great drive and Picton has some lovely coffee shops and wares shops to dawdle through. And there’s the historic George IV pub to visit as well.
A fine daytrip. You’re welcome.
