Proud to say Colorado’s top news station featured Dr. Gerber on recent segment. I love that there’s credible figures out there representing this movement! http://www.9news.com/mobile/video/news/health/explaining-the-science-behind-the-keto-diet/73-2782902
Dr Gerber on the local news!
I wish they would have promoted this so I could have DVR’ed the show. Someone else posted about this a few days ago. I saw the clip on 9 New’s website and it was really great to see such a balanced portrayal of keto.
I’m lucky enough to be a patient at his office. It’s ten minutes from my house. They do a fantastic job!
Hi out there!
Wondering about calorie intake if one only eats 2 meals a day. Do we count calories?
Hard to count in veggies etc if there’s no label to refer to. How much food does one eat? I wish there was a website with what & how much to eat at each meal. I can’t eat a big meal. I can go 5 or 6 hrs after breakfast
without food, then I have to eat. But it’s very confusing.

[/quote]The idea is to keep your protein moderate (too much or too little can cause problems), keep your carbohydrate under 20 g a day (so as to avoid stimulating insulin secretion, insulin being the fat-storage hormone), and eat fat to satiety. The last is the important part, because fat doesn’t stimulate insulin secretion, and because it is very satisfying to your hunger. If you give your body enough energy to do all the things it wants to do, without stimulating insulin secretion, then it will be able to burn the fat it has stored.
So all this is to say, eat fat till you’re no longer hungry, and don’t count calories. Let your body tell you when it’s received enough energy, regardless of what the calorie intake works out to be. And don’t let the government’s prejudice against fat turn you off fat. Be a keto subversive!
Well… I disagree with the don’t count calories mentality. I might be completely wrong but I count mine.
So it’s up to you, if you do want to count them, use a good application to do so. So far, the best I have found is MyFitnessPal. They also have a website. The app is great because not only can you enter food manually from a very complete database, but you can also scan barcodes of items you are eating it it will know all the nutritional values. I have yet to scan something it did not have in it’s database.
This requires a bit of time and dedication, but in the end you always know where you are at and it makes it easier to make changes if the numbers don’t show what you want to see.
There are also websites to calculate the macros you should aim for in terms of calories, carbs, proteins and fat content. For me, calories are pretty easy, carbs are almost impossible. By tracking what you eat you can see how close you are to the goals you should aim for.
But again, the other school of thought is not to count and simply listen to your body. If you can do that and still achieve your goals, it’s much easier.
