I did Keto successfully for a year before falling off the wagon for about 9 months. I’ve been back Ketoing for 2.5 months and not only have I NOT lost but I’ve gained some weight. The only thing different this time is I’m eating less fat (hoping to burn the fat I already have) and I’ve been donating plasma regularly. I thought that donating might help burn fat but since I’m gaining I wondered if it’s stressful for my body and actually hindering my weight loss. Anyone have any input?
Donating plasma hindering progress?
I donated a few times in the past, but it was before doing Keto, so I couldn’t tell you how it might effect it one way or another.
I had a really bad experience my last time.
They said I could no longer get the sailine drip since I had already given a couple times and it was only for new doners. Basically my BP dropped like a lead balloon, the whole place started spinning. I couldn’t get anyone working there to take me seriously. Which turned the whole thing into a panic attack with me hyperventilating and for good measure throwing up all over the place while gasping for air at the same time. They finally tried to help me once I really was in danger of choking on my own vomit.
They gave me the saline drip and I was fine in a matter of minutes.
Anyway, haven’t been back since.
No idea about plasma or blood donations, but I do know what the old timers here would probably say: figure out your macros and stick to them, “less fat” is not a good idea.
I can’t tell regarding the plasma but back to the food…
You say you are eating less fat to try and burn stored body fat, but are you fat adapted again? If you have gone 9 months without doing keto, you will need to start from the beginning. That’s almost a whole year of eating carbs/glucose. You’re a glucose burner again.
I believe from this point you need to up the fat again.
Eat fat to satiety. It’s the only way to assure that your body is getting the energy it needs. You don’t want to overdo the protein, and eating carbs will cause your body to store fat, not burn it. Restricting calories will also cause your body to hang on to its fat stores.
eating windows? How often do you eat and what are your macros?
I really doubt it has anything to do with the plasma donation.
It is normal that what worked a year ago might not work now and need a little tweaking.
in my own experience less fat is not a good idea, especially not for the first 6 months or so.
