Dog Food

So I have had a sick dog the last few weeks. Updated her shots, she got kennel cough from the place. Decided to vet her at another place to relieve the cough. She quit deficating. Still was drinking and eating and urinating. She’s always had a rough time with dog food. I just switched her over to a gently cooked, almost raw diet. And it’s not quite as low carb as keto. But I’m pretty happy with how much it’s helped her. She went from being lethargic to being happy go lucky. She’s always been adverse to dog food but now she prances every morning and night waiting for her food.

Here’s a list of the ingredients. Name of the place it’s called all provide. FYI I have a small 13 pound dog so even with her it costs me about $60 but she’s worth every $$. Chicken with Bone, Chicken Heart, Chicken Liver, Carrot, Broccoli, Butternut Squash, Parsley, Milled Flaxseed, Coconut Oil, Wild Alaskan Salmon Oil, Dried Sea Kelp, Oregano Leaf, Dried Egg Yolk, Turmeric Powder, Mixed Tocopherols (natural vitamin E)

Glad she’s feeling better.

Thanks, mostly better, cough isn’t decreased much which does have me somewhat worried. But she’s eating, drinking, urinating, and now defecating. On antibiotics, cough medicine. I’m
Hoping it continues to improve! She’s one of my best buds.

I can relate to that, my boy is my best friend
Many years ago when I adopted a dog from the pound and he had kennel cough my vet told me to give him Benalyn (non drowsy) cough syrup and it fixed it really well.

I will have to look into that if it doesn’t improve. Not sure about dosing since she is so small! It’s funny how they gel right into the family. Got her from a lady who was throwing her out of her car at a grocery store at four weeks old. She didn’t want the responsibility and took her away from her mom way to early so she’s clung to me pretty close!

Did you say you give your dog chicken with bone?

I had always heard to never give a dog chicken bones.

(Allie) #8

Not cooked chicken bones as they splinter, but raw bones are fine. Cooked lamb and pork are bad too, but raw fine.

No, it’s cooked down into the food she gets. It’s just the juices. It’s already in pre frozen bags you just thAw, heat and serve.

One of the foods my boy has is minced whole chicken, bones and all. He thrives on it. Wolves in the wild eat the whole prey, our pampered companions have the same digestive needs.

Yep, I don’t trust her enough to do that because she her size. She’s already had trachea collapse from not eating her small
Food all the way and scarfing it. Which is another reason I went with the rAw gently
Cooked diet.

This is already minced up into small pieces so there’s no worry about that kind of thing thankfully. If she’s doing well on what you’re giving her there’s no need to change it.
