Does putting oil on as skin cream affect weightloss

#1

This may sound like a strange question. I have done the HCG diet for the past 12 years and was not allowed to put oil on my skin because it would affect my weight loss. Is that the same with Keto? if I put on oil while I am doing my fast will it affect ketosis?

(bulkbiker) #2

Short answer no… but more interesting is what is the HCG diet?

#3

@MarkGossage HCG is a hormone that you take daily for 28 - 45 days and you drop about a pound a day if you stick to it. You only get to eat 500 calories a day and its limited. Its not a lifestyle change like Keto.

The FDA labled this diet, ā€œdangerous, illegal, and fraudulentā€. But it’s not like the FDA doesn’t lie… if the money is right. Still, in this case, I think the FDA is correct.

(Mike W.) #5

You did this for 12 years?!

#6

@CarlKeller It does work and works well. I just don’t have the discipline to watch what I eat plus I was going through tough times. Being overweight is a huge moneymaker. Big pharma likes that !!

#7

On and off but I would gain it back because I would binge eat due to divorce

(Ken) #8

I’d say that if you only eat 500 calories a day you’d lose weight no matter what you did or did not put on your skin. Or whatever hormones as well.

It reminds me of the Dinovite ads for dog food on the radio. They say feed your dog meat, fat, eggs, organs and Dinovite. If you’re feeding your dog that way you certainly don’t need Dinovite.

Perhaps it does, but HCG was designed for infertility and it might make me grow breasts. I do like breasts; but not on me. :stuck_out_tongue:

#10

Understood LOL !! :rofl::rofl::rofl:

(Kevin Bloomfield) #11

I have told my clients the same thing… A few swear by it … I’m torn doing a little research on it for a friend … I agree with the previous post and the FDA isn’t always the good guy… Just sayin

The hCG hormone itself isn’t the only problem. It’s approved by the FDA as a treatment for infertility. Their list of side effects does sound a little scary however: headaches, cramps, constipation, depression, male breast enlargement, infection, and blood clots. Though these complications are relatively rare in most cases. The real danger lies in the diet.

The reason is the absorbed oil or fat… the short response is the Keto diet promotes fat intake (simple answer)

Hope that helps…
Kevin

I know we can absorb through the skin, I am concerned that it would break my fast if I put coconut oil on my skin first thing in the morning. I just want to get the weight off without screwing up.

(Hyperbole- best thing in the universe!) #13

I confess to doing the HCG diet once. And I lost weight. I like keto much better.

I don’t know if ā€˜they’ are right that oil on your skin is enough to sabotage your results on the HCG diet, but it certainly isn’t a problem with keto. At most it is the equivalent of adding a splash of oil to your food… which kind of behavior is encouraged around these parts. And oil is so good for your skin, whether internally or externally applied, it helps you feel good which in turn keeps you motivated.

I use coconut oil on my skin everyday as moisturizer and as a facial cleanser. I’ve been keto for 3 months. I’m down 35 lbs. I don’t think the coconut oil is hurting anything. Though I’ve found that my increased dietary fat is decreasing how much oil I need to use to moisturize.

(Ethan) #15

So it’s a diet where you take a placebo pill that hurts you while you get actual results because you are calorie restricting to nearly fasting levels?

#16

@CookbookMedic 35 lbs in 3 months is terrific !! Do you mind me asking you what you eat for your meals and what your fasting to eating range is. I would love to lose weight quicker.

#17

Quite the opposite. It’ll help get your testosterone pumping. Bodybuilders use it after a steroid cycle to help get the boys plump and back to normal.

(Sierra McVehil) #18

@danishmom This is the fastest I’ve ever lost weight! I have a large amount of weight to lose though, so that may be part of it. I started at 295 lbs at 5’8".

I have been following a 16/8 IF schedule. I usually eat 2 meals during that window, but sometimes more sometimes less. That depends on how hungry and busy I am.

I eat a lot of bacon and eggs, tuna or chicken salad, fatty beef and pork, and loads of dark leafy greens. I avoid dairy, soy, and gluten due to an autoimmune disorder.

I track what I am eating on a food diary app to make sure I’m hitting my macros. I’ve found I tend to not eat enough protein, so I like to keep an eye on it. I seem to naturally only eat about 1300-1500 calories a day now. But then every few days I’ll have a day where I’m especially hungry and will eat well over 2000 calories. I think my body is learning to self regulate my intake now that I’m not being driven by out of control cravings and binges.

(Doug) #19

Nicely said, Sierra. :slightly_smiling_face: I think you’re right, and that this is a very good thing for us. (Even if some of us have to learn the hard way, over and over.)

(Chris) #20

Funny you mention that as it’s used in male steroid users to help prevent feminization side effects.
