Does keto address water retention based on salt consumption?

Both my wife and mother-in-law suffer from occasional swelling that they attribute to retained water when they eat salty foods. They are both very overweight S.A.D. eaters and have shown nothing but contempt for keto so I don’t really have any short-term hope of getting them on it, but IF I did, would this be one of the afflictions that it would moderate?

Thanks for the input!

Short answer: yes. High insulin levels and sodium retention go together. When insulin levels drop - sodium flushes out. I had the same problem when eating SAD. Now that I am on keto, hand/foot swelling is gone, and I eat as much salt as I want.
IF is certainly better than constant grazing - but if they IF with SAD, may not see the same results as with keto. But it would be a good start. They might begin with no snacking between meals and after bedtime. Not sure if they themselves would see any significant results - but their liver would know :slightly_smiling_face:
