It’s not from the Bible, but your right about their doctrine. BUT if they took this at face value they would have no reason to not eat any kind of meat.
…And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance, [11] And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth: [12] Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air. [13] And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat. [14] But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean. [15] And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.
Just saying…
Does anti-keto, pro-plant get any worse than this?
Will have to re-read that. Can’t believe I didn’t recognize it as I have read the bible for years.
Read it - fascinating! I still find it odd there are two dietary protocols in Genesis!
Does anyone have an explanation for why there are two dietary protocols. The Christians can’t explain it, and neither can the Jews. Any bible scholars out there?
@Regina, not a scholar, but I’ll throw in my two cents.
Jews were required to eat only “clean” animals under Mosaic law. This was one of the distinctions that set them apart, from other civilizations in the region, as God’s Chosen People (ultimately the nation Jesus would be born into).
The difference between clean and unclean animals:

The passage, Wendy quoted from above, is a metaphor where in God is telling Peter (one of the 12 Apostles), basically the Gospel (Good News of Jesus) is not only for the Jews (clean animals), but also the Gentiles, or non-Jew, (unclean animals).
The passage, in context, really isn’t about what we can and cannot eat, but I like to think, if God made it, then it’s acceptable for consumption, even if that animal was once considered “unclean”.
Besides, I can’t even begin to imagine a life without bacon!
The way I understand it is that it’s part of a diferent dispensation. The Jews during that time period were under the law and now as was the time that Peter was in is the dispensation of grace.
This is another doctrine that I personally suscribe to.
I have no issues with eating any kind of meat. I’m thankful that I can eat bacon and shellfish with a very clean conscience but also respect anyone’s conviction that they can’t.
Regina, I think a lot of the new wave of anti-keto articles is the social media machine. Any polarizing article gets a lot of views, so everyone starts piling on to get their share. it’s a common ploy, so there’ll be an increase is the number of articles ballyhooing keto until the next big topic comes along.
“It’s my opinion that the ketogenic diet is the most dangerous lifestyle fad of the 21st century,” said Dr. Newman, who follows a plant-based diet.
So she even admits there’s no science to back it up. And I wouldn’t considered Physicians Committee to be a credible group since they have a strong plant-based diet bias.
“I even read five case reports of deaths in children who were having to follow a ketogenic diet for other reasons. Please avoid ketogenic diets, for your own health, for the future.”
Read it where? A supermarket tabloid? Unless she can cite a credible NEWS source, than I think she’s just a
But why, in the book of Genesis, is a plant based diet prescribed before the Fall, and then meat added in later?
I read the abstract today. Two of undisclosed deaths, one of epilepsy, one of pneumonia, and one from a fall. Did the author really not take the time…
Oh, I see. Sorry if I misunderstood your question.
Well, you make an important distinction here, “before the Fall”; according to Jewish and Christian doctrine, when sin entered the world.
Before this event it’s believed God had created the earth as a paradise, even a place where He could reside.
After sin entered the world, essentially Paradise was lost, and the world changed. Death has now entered the world, not just in the form of killing animals for food, but also in the account of Cain killing his brother Able.
It’s possible that the plants in Eden, before the fall, were alone sufficient to sustain life, but after the fall this was no longer the case.
Whatever the case, humans thrive on an animal based diet. If vegetarians, for instance, refer to this account as proof that humans should be eating a plant based diet, I don’t think the science is on their side.
