Thanks Daisy.

We can all compare notes later. IDK how much will be that relevant but the one he did last series with T2D was amazing. We had great fun discussing Sugar-Free Farm when it was on.

I loved sugar free farm - actually I love most diet stuff on TV even if I don’t agree with it - I just shout at the TV - my family are used to it

There is a woman I sort of know on later this week actually. I forget what it is called - the typical something Fat I think. It is on C4 so should actually be a decent programme. Her name is Sharon and I met her back on WLS forums in the UK. She has had a big old struggle with huge weight issues. It could be an interesting watch and I must get back in touch with her.

Channel 4 Thursday 9pm. Britains’Fattest Women. Yes, looks like she’s having more surgery. I’ll check it out - I think I remember her story. I’m sure she would appreciate you getting in touch.

cheers will catch up on this, watching little boy blue tonight

#8

Is that good? I missed the first one but have recorded the rest. Need to access iPlayer to watch the one/s I missed. Worth it?

#9

I seem to remember that she was post sleeve when I spoke to her and it was scheduled as first part of two step DS op. I hope things have worked out well for her. I will be keen to watch. Why do they have to call programmes stuff like that - really? I suppose it pulls in the audience but…

(ianrobo) #10

it is degrading but guess she gets cash for it ?

The real point is the ops never work, they never change behaviour.

(ianrobo) #11

bloody superb esp if you know the backstory, Iplayer would be no good though it is on ITV

#12

I seem to remember she got help funding the op yes.

Actually they do - I am testament to that! Not alone maybe but they can be part of what is needed to turn your life around.

(ianrobo) #13

maybe but you need more as you have proved. if all you do is to restrict calories in effect, surely eventually it will have a negative impact ?

#14

It is way more involved than restricting calories - it changes how your body works, hormone levels and all sorts of things. I do not include the gastric band when I talk about WLS because that really is a waste of time.

Actually, I got most of the way there with the sleeve. Luckily I worked out that LCHF and then keto was the perfect pairing before regain started kicking in. The sad part is that the support that goes with it is shoddy at best. If the right advice and help was given things could be so much better.

It is still the fastest way (as far as I am aware) of reversing T2D markers. Yes, even faster than keto. I am not saying it is the answer for everyone but it has its place and is a valuable tool for many to get well.

(ianrobo) #15

I get that Daisy just very anti operations to solve this but you have the personal experience of course.

Are there any stats or studies to show how well people do after the op’s of whatever type ?

#16

Yes. I will have to dig around. 5 years plus - the sleeve is performing as well as gastric bypass. DS still holds the record for best long term success but also has the most potential complications. The band is a pile of wank and should be banned. Excuse the pun!

There was a great programme about it a while back actually that was very balanced. Looking at it form a purely financial perspective, it is far more economical to use WLS than not, due to cost of diabetes care.

(ianrobo) #17

interesting programme as taking its time seems to work and no wheat, no milk, no added sugar, most of that is familiar !

(ianrobo) #18

and the lesson @Daisy is dead simple, we don’t need pills do we ? The woman with the headaches, ok a muscle/joint issue but they skirted over the diet change and why it may have helped !

#19

Oh is it on? I always forget don’t I? Good thing I record these things!

Love Dr in the House so was very disappointed with last nights “ask the Dr” ABC. Aus obesity Docs need to talk to lovely Dr Eric Westman…so far down the wrong rabbit hole it’s not funny. I’ve got 5 words to say to them " ketogenic diet with intermittent fasting" oh and a few more words as I’m a bit worked up … " forget set points, brown fat pills and the Biggest loser model of weight loss".
