I drink water when I’m thirsty. If I’m thirsty with a meal then so be it.
Do you drink water when you eat?
Once upon a Time some scientists said they thought that drinking water with meals might dilute digestive juices and hinder digestion, and said they would do a study on it. For some reason, people latched on to the idea, and started spreading his hypothesis around as if it were fact. When the study came out showing that drinking water with meals was perfectly fine, it was too late. Everyone was already convinced drinking with meals was bad.
Drink when thirsty, even during a meal.
I drink water throughout the day but not during my meal unless I am very thirsty. After my first meal (I eat twice a day) I always have a glass of water with ACV.
I’ve always had something to drink with my meals, I can’t imagine doing it any other way.
three things give me heartburn
1- drinking water while eating
2- drinking very cold water
3- drinking lots of water even away from meal times
I think many people have the same problem but water is one of the last thing to suspect
Before keto, I drank water with meals. Now, it seems to reduce how much I salivate and maybe I don’t produce as many enzymes because my mouth doesn’t produce enough of its own liquid? I don’t know, but I’ve found I digest meals better without extra liquids as long as there’s a lot of water in my system overall. I drink a lot of water before and after meals.
Water used to give me heartburn many years ago but I’ve only had it a handful of times since being keto. I still can’t drink cold water though, always heat it slightly.
If the body did react negatively, you’d think someone would have noticed at some point during the last two million years or so, no?
I’d be curious to know: Is anybody here allergic to water?
This is one of the problems with research in this area. Who funds the research? The manufacturers of drinks. It’s to their benefit to make it so that we “need” to drink all the time.
I personally only drink when thirsty. I do, however, workout after I’ve had my coffee, so that goes somewhat to hydration. I see people at the gym who have a gallon (about 4 liters) jug of water. There’s no way you could sweat out a gallon of water.
Though I too have read some about those who prefer one way over the other, when it comes to drinking water with meals… I’ve never really tried to control it either way. I drink water all day & basically whenever the body calls for it. - So this could be if I happen to eat something spicy-hot (which is very rare), something dry or simply when something triggers the desire. … Like most other things, I just let my body decide. It knows best.
I drink water during meals and throughout the day. When I workout I usually drink even more.
