Do you do feast famine cycling in the long term?

Hi. I’m new to keto and I started off by reading Dr Mercola’s book Fat for Fuel which I found very interesting. He mentions cycling in some feast famine; adding in some slight variations once you have become fat adapted in order to promote extra health benefits alongside IF. For example eating slightly more carbs in veg on certain days or during certain seasons depending on what suits your specific needs (not necessarily for everyone). I’m interested in doing this for summer when I’m more active as I feel it will help me maintain this woe over the long term. I think he’s saying that the body will respond positively to some changes while maintaining the ability to switch readily to fat burning. Have you had any experience of this or read this book and have an opinion about it? I’m interested in everyone’s views as I haven’t much experience of it yet. Thanks

I choose to feast then do a fast. Fasting is a choice one makes. It can help you gain healthy benefits

A famine is something totally different and causes a very negative reaction in people. Famine is something that is forced on you, either the earth is not capable of producing food due to lack of rain, too much rain, hailstorms, etc. or due to military action in an area that would normally provide food for the local people.

I would never choose a famine. I don’t think any sane person would.

Do you have regular times when you eat differently to your usual macros? Such as eating more carbs that usual on certain days or at certain times in the year?

I think perhaps I misnamed the approach as it is feast fasting not famine.

I eat my regular meals, maybe a few more higher fat items when I am feasting before a fast and I always break a fast with nuts or olives or avocado, before having one of my regular meals. I’m in maintenance and I eat no more than 50 grams of carbs, most meals less, closer to 20 than the 50, but I don’t do an intentional carb recycling.

There are some websites that support carb cycling. That would just trigger binge eating in someone like me, so nope wouldn’t dream of it.

This WOE gets enough negativity thrown at it. So I am sensitive to famine or starving being mentioned as part of it.
