Do I need to stuff myself?

(David) #1

Right now, about 4 days after I accidentally got started, I’m sat here looking at MFP and see that my values are:-

  • Carbs - 13g (oops, I slipped up when a colleague offered me a menthol sweetie - that alone was 6 carbs)
  • Fat - 68g
  • Protein - 94g

and here’s what I ate:-
Bulletproof coffee (kinda) with 19g butter, coconut oil and vanilla extract
2 boiled egg
a cherry menthol sweet

for lunch about 7 rashers of bacon covered in 130g of creamcheese

a kind of improvised bullet-proof coffee (with no butter, I was at work)
2 boiled eggs
a couple of teaspoons of coconut oil when I got peckish.

When I got home 100g prawns which had defrosted,
200g chicken (roughly)

and throughout the day about a litre of water.

Is that a lot of boiled eggs?

Looking at the calorie count it shows 1,233 calories with 982 remaining. Should I eat some more? Or just go to bed satisfied?

No!! Eat when hungry…stop when satisfied.

You got this in the bag! Good for you!

No such thing as too many eggs…unless you have an allergy or something like that.

Oldest living woman in the world ate 3 eggs a day for almost all her life.

Nope, don’t eat unless hungry. If you were hungry, I’d suggest something very high in fat due to your current macro balance. But honestly, if you’re satiated and feel good, then you’re doing it right so don’t sweat it!

If you feel OK I would say you are fine. Calorie deficit can make you feel bad when you first start out, as you are not fully fat adapted. If your body cannot make up the shortcoming with body fat, you may “bonk”.

Looks like you are doing great! Keep it up  the whole “not feeling as hungry thing” is such an odd thing to get used to!

It’s really weird just how many trips to the bread bin (for biscuits), or the fridge, or freezer, or cupboards I make for snacks. Remembering how I would reach for the milk, and think nothing of pouring a pint of milk out and drink it, and then go back for a second one not an hour later. Or, how I would grab 8-12 rich tea biscuits to have with a cup of tea, and then I’d go back and get another 6 (if I was ‘good’).

I never thought I would give up sugar in my tea. I used to use a small teaspoon at work, to give myself the illusion that I was using a lot, but after watching a video with Dr Lustig on Saturday on YouTube, I just lost stopped. Cold turkey. No drinks since then with added sugar. I nearly put one in this evening. I was thinking of something while brewing up, and subconsciously, out of habit, picked up the Nutella jar that I use for sugar, and took the lid off. I managed to stop myself though.

Lots of odd feelings at the moment, but not bad odd, just not old habits trying to surface.

I’m from the UK, and my gf is in Germany. I wish I could bonk. </smut\>

It can mean the same thing stateside, but it is pretty mild. I like to use bonking to mean when you loose “all” your energy.

I listened to your episode of the podcast today. I was walking around Asda with a big grin chuckling to myself.

It was hilarious.

Well done for everything you’ve achieved.

Why thank you David. That is very kind.

#12

Sounds like you are on the right track! Like the others have already said, please don’t eat unless hungry!

(Ross Daniel) #13

Another thing you may consider is getting rid of all of the “bad habit” stuff. Like for example, throwing away the sugar. No reason to have sugar around anymore. That sort of thing can go a long way to help you stay on track, at least from my personal experience it does.

Eat when you’re hungry
And drink when you’re dry
And if moonshine don’t kill ya
You’ll live 'till you die.

(David) #15

Like these?

These are all the ‘emergency snacks’ I had tucked away in my cupboards and drawers at work to save me from having to buy an unhealthy chocolate bar from the vending machine at work if I ever had a snack attack.

56 bars. That’s how many there are.

I’ll leave them on the table in the brew room at work for the carbivores.

4 boiled eggs is not a problem - eggs are very nutritious.

Otherwise if you aren’t hungry - don’t eat

(David) #17

It’s just that I remember ‘conventional wisdom’ from a few years ago advising against eating more than x number of eggs per year week or day, or whatever.

I should look for the science.

#18

The eat only one egg a day rule was based on cholesterol is bad for you “science”…ahem…bullshit.

#19

This conventional “wisdom” was very quietly withdrawn quite a few years ago when the science behind the original study was disproven.

(David) #20

@ketokate if you have any links to the disproving theory I need it. My gf gave me such a dirty look the other day when I met up with her in Berlin and took 3 boiled eggs and some scrambled for breakfast. She asked me if I had heard of the “2 egg rule”.
