Do I have high blood sugar?

Hello people!

I am a bit surprised at how high my blood sugar levels have been since on a ketogenic diet; they seem to have crept upwards! However, I haven’t seen the blood sugar readings of others on a ketogenic diet. I’ve only heard that blood sugar should be about 3 of 4 mmol/l, or about 55-75 mg/dL. Mine are about 5.4-6.2 mmol/l, or about 97-111 mg/dL. As such, I thought I better check this with people. My ketones are now always in the range of 0.5 upwards, I guess on average about 0.9 mmol/l.

Any insight would really be appreciated!

Many thanks!

My fasting glucose level after 6 weeks on a low-carb diet was 80 mg/DL if that gives you any basis for comparison. I have never measured blood ketones.

With blood sugar, you have to also provide WHEN you’re taking it. Is this upon waking? After a meal? Before sleep? A random blood sugar without more data is useless. Here’s two weeks of my blood sugar from earlier this year (I can’t remember what caused that large spike at 8am):

Unlike John, my “fasting and upon waking” blood sugar is much higher than his, over 100. Mine goes up all day until about noon, then goes down all day until about midnight. Low carb five years as of 1/1/19.

Those numbers are the top are average numbers in those time periods for the about 2 week period. So, my high average is 5.5=100 and my low is 4.2 = 75.6. Note that I have slightly higher blood sugar now, not sure why. Also, the sensors for this system can register 10 points different depending on location.

Thank you so much people, your averages and the graph above is very helpful. I forgot to mention that my blood sugar about a year before being on a ketogenic diet, which is when I last was tested in, tended to be lower. It seems that blood sugar may sometimes go up a little when on a ketogenic diet, which is not something I expected.

Recording when my blood sugar readings were taken, they were spread throughout the day, and were lowest when waking up in the morning or sometimes when going for a long cycle ride. They were highest probably just after weight training for an hour or two after eating.

Thank you for your input!
