DNA Testing

Has anyone had their DNA tested via 23andMe (or similar) and looked for SNPs that reflect a need for Keto and how they might affect Keto? You can export your results to a dozen plus different analysis sites.

I did 23 and Me and exported my results, but so far have only used it to determine that I do NOT have the MTHFR mutation, nor anything that increases cholesterol and/or LDL, but I also have nothing that decreases cholesterol and/or LDL.

Other than Dr. Rhonda Patrick’s site, what other sites are available for DNA analysis?

I’ve used https://promethease.com/ and others I don’t recall off the top of my head. 23andMe has a list worth looking at here: http://www.23andyou.com/3rdparty . It would be worth putting together a chart of findings.

I did 23andMe before the US government stepped in and changed the rules. What I found very useful that was included with my results was the ā€˜confidence level’ (as they called it) of the results because if there’s a low confidence level, one can pretty much discount the results or, at least, that’s how I interpret it.
I was very interested to see if I had the mutation in the Parkinson gene that occurs more often in Ashkenazi Jews, as my mom (died age 92) and her brother, my uncle, were both diagnosed in their 60’s. I didn’t have the gene and that was a relief but it doesn’t discount the fact that their Parkinson’s was perhaps due to environmental factors. Since I have no definitive answers and also, because I have a very strong family history of CVD, I’ve decided that keto is the way to go for me.
P.S. I haven’t done much with the raw data yet.

I have also used Promethease using my exported Ancestry dna results. Made for an interesting read of the results!

Did a DNAFit test a year or so ago and found out that I apparently have a high sensitivity to both carbohydrates and saturated fat. Was a bit surprised as I’ve never had problems with my weight, despite eating high carb, low fat for my whole life(45 years) before going low carb a couple of years ago and then fully keto about 6 months ago. Sticking with keto now (apart from a monthly cheat day) as I feel good on it so far and there seem to be many health benefits. Also do IF (around 20/4) nearly every day. I don’t overdo it with the saturated fat, though, after seeing the test results.

I did the free ā€œGenes for Goodā€ surveys and then ran the sequence results through promeathease. The top thing it found was me being multiple times more likely than normal to have T2D, although I’d have to dig up the report to find which genes they were basing it on.

Really interesting as my Ancestry.com kit arrived yesterday!
