DNA fit

I had my 23and me info analyzed by DNA fit. They say I have the gene expression that does not process saturated fat well and that I should only have a diet of 50% fat with only 8% saturated fat. Just wondering if I really need to drop to 50% fat. I get that I need to reduce my saturated fat (so hard to give up coconut milk) but do I really need to be on a Mediterranean diet rather than keto. My dna does show I should be low carb.

I’ve been reliably and expertly assured that I shouldn’t be doing what I’m doing now, without the nascent field of commercial general population DNA testing. As with anything new, I’m highly skeptical, (in general) and, if it were me, I’d like to see what data they’ve used to come to these conclusions.

Or, I’d flip this. How many people that share this gene expression have gone LCHF and how have they performed?

With big data, AI and machine learning around the corner, it will be interesting to see how we’ll better understand these relationships.

One of my favorite films is Gattica. It shows us a scary future indeed.

@Ket0power - it might be hard to get any real info on this. Maybe try lowering the fat? I guess it depends on your reasons for doing keto.

I’m of the mind that @Ket0power should get a lipid panel with her GD, or, better, see if there’s a HEAL Clinic that can work with Kim and to carefully monitor progress.

I’m not saying ignore the 23&me results, but I wouldn’t bless them, either. Doctors and science still rocks, FWIW.

My mom had Alzheimer’s so my main reason for keto is brain health. Overall my weight while I would like to be 10 lbs less I would not in anyway be considered overweight.

My cholesterol markers are normal. HDL 85. Trigleryides 70

I ran my 23andme data through FoundMyFitness and it also shows I have more risk for obesity with high saturated fat intake. I’ve been trying to go with primarily olive and avocado oils for all of my cooking, with a little butter for flavor. I like chicken and fish better than beef and pork so maybe my taste buds are trying to tell me something already.
