Amazing article, definitely worth reading!

TLDR: Crazy lady with diabetes and a bum pancreas iterates off of continuous glucose monitor and off-the-shelf insulin pump to create an “artificial pancreas” that performs the insulin microdosing function of a real pancreas according to an automated predictive algotrithm she wrote. The hardware is controlled by open source software.

Plot twist: the fricking thing works, and more people join in to help. Now 1300 people have built a DIY pancreas and are using it to keep themselves alive.
