Discuss this equation, and my view of it- should be interesting!

Good morning, all! I was reading through the forums yesterday, and came across an interesting post “Does this count as an extended fast?”. Since I was doing a modified 2 day, I read it, and one of the responses posted a link from 2 Keto Dudes called “Why fasting is easier for some people”.

Since every time I post something regarding moderating fat intake (and yes, protein as well!) , I get bashed over the head (virtually, thank goodness!) , I figured I may as well keep up the interesting conversation and jump into this one!

So, I have seen this formula before:
Total weight
Lean body mass
Body Fat (lb)
Metabolic Rate (kCal/day)
Required Metabolic Deficit
Required Metabolic Deficit
Additional fat required

So, in reading that information, I realized, the way I was understanding it (and living it), was that if I keep my intake UP TO my BMR , my metabolism will stay up. I think we all agree with those facts.

So, the post goes on to explain that if our body fat provides 31.5 kcals of energy /lb/day x % of body fat available, then all I need to eat to keep my metabolism running BUT STILL LOSE FAT is that deficit number, whatever it may be for me (13% for me, or 173.4).

So in my mind, that means, and which I have proven to myself over and over again when I go on a fat binge (yeah, like last night after breaking my fast! It was good!), that if I overeat fat PAST MY DEFICIT AMOUNT, that, as well as my insulin level (protein/carb intake), will affect how much weight I lose or don’t lose.

Thoughts?

Now, how TDEE figures in, I haven’t had time to ponder that one…waiting for the next slow afternoon at work!

I mean, I could fast for 40 days and not require any fat. But seriously…

I agree with this and am really starting to keep my protein intentionally limited. I call this MVP - minimum viable protein. I lost a lot of weight last year and my protein was quite low. I didn’t lose a disproportionate amount of muscle, either.

I do allow myself natural variances because the body is the original smart machine and adapts so quickly. I’ve been meaning to factor more of hormone cycles into my macros…at some point I will do the analysis.

Have you read Jason Fung and others on the excess protein we are consuming. Fung recommends 0.6g per POUND of Lean body mass (not kg) for sedentary folks. I was also having kidney issues so naturally am inclined to minimize protein intake.

Every body is different so I’m a believer in doing what works for you and then switching it up if it stops working. If you’re ill or lifting then protein is a different story.

I have all of Dr. Fung’s blogs and books. I love your MVP! I do the same with fat and protein during the week and have " feasting Fridays" and a big brunch on Sunday.
I used to think we could diet away the lbs then go back to eating “normally”; now I know this is it for life. A couple of feasts in the midst of a whole lotta IF! But boy, sire makes those feasts really special!
