Discouraging week ended in whoosh!

(Shannon) #1

I had a difficult week dealing with joint pain and stiffness, confusion on my diet and beginning an exercise regimen again, which lead me to post here. I got some great advice, thoughts/ideas and encouragement and kept on plugging away and KCKO. Today I woke up feeling great and for some reason lost 3 lbs overnight. It was super exciting considering I’ve been ENJOYING what I eat, and feeling satisfied. I can’t believe I can enjoy a BPC (I never thought I’d like butter and coco oil in my coffee but literally it’s one of my favorite things in my day) everyday and still be feeling better and fitting in clothes better. Thanks so much for the advice to help me stay motovated!!

Great update, Shannon. I noticed the more I carried on the less things like extra strenuous things left me sore. Hopefully you’ll feel the same benefit as you travel on your journey.

Glad to hear it’s working out for you Shannon.

I hope you soon find improvement with your joint pain and stiffness. That’s probably my greatest NSV. I was chronically achy and eliminating processed foods removed 95% of it.

Thank you and ME TOO. It has been a struggle for years and although it is better, I would like it gone. It’s such a hindrance on my life and my kids life when it is triggered. I hope that with eating cleaner and tracking more, I can really start identifying the problem. I’m so glad you feel better, what a gift Keto has been!

That’s great, congrats!!! :dancer:

I was wondering if I could ask you a couple of questions here that I think I know the answer to, but checking— and I have googled, but was just wondering from personal experience—-
Pure butter is not trans fat.
Do you take a ginger or tumeric (or both) supplement?
How careful are you with sugar? For instance, if bacon has an ingredient list that has sugar at the end is that awful? Even if there are 0 carbs?
Thank you so much for your time, this is a
Big learning curb but also so informative!

Butter does have a small amount of trans fat but it is natural and supposedly less harmful than trans fats created from hydrogenation.

The carbs have most likely been rounded down to zero if the bacon has any sugar in it. I’m less worried about foods that have natural sugars like vegetables than am I foods that have added sugar. But in the case of bacon where I might spend a few carbs due to sugar used in the curing process, it doesn’t worry me. In your case, where you want as little sugar as possible in your diet, you have the option of buying sugar free bacon.

Nope.

Thank you so much for your help these days! I have to curb my butter intake, I have a newfound appreciation for the taste these days and have been eating a little bit raw. I never thought I’d say those words! Thanks again!

I am not too finicky about sugar in bacon. I have a preferred brand so I just suck it up. I do not believe it has hindered my progress in any way, YMMV.

I tried a turmeric supplement for about 2 weeks recently. I was not a fan. I saw no benefits & ultimately, it just upset my stomach. I cut back to half the dose on week 3. I have now decided to just leave it out altogether.

I use ginger in every morning coffee. I like the taste and I think it aids my tummy. I also try to get cinnamon into something once daily.

You aren’t alone in eating little slices of butter. I do it when I’m cooking. My mother might die if she saw that!

So glad to hear you’ve had a turnaround, love this update and glad you’re feeling better in yourself

Thanks for this, I’ve also been wondering about the bacon. I have to use uncured bacon, and it always lists 1 gram carbs per slice due to the sugar (I get the thick sliced at Costco). I haven’t found one I like (and can afford) yet that doesn’t have sugar.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #14

I enjoy a bit of cheese on mine.

You’re certainly not the only one! I slice up little pieces of butter (preferably KerryGold unsalted) and sprinkle them with pink Himalayan salt–and keep in a ziploc bag in the fridge, and also carry one in my my lunchbag. When I feel like I need something, I pop a couple pieces in my mouth and let it melt–and I LOVE to do this while sipping on a hot cup of coffee! So yummy and satisfying!
