Discouraged after gaining

(Suzanne Wubbena) #1

I have been on the Keto diet for 1 month. I have gained 3 pounds and started itching every day . I am insulin resistant and have low carbed before and lost weight but not now at all. Any ideas?

One month is not long enough to even get your body adjusted. What is the reason you started keto and tell a bit about yourself.
The itching and rash is a common problem at the beginning. My daughter and I both had it for about a month and then it went away. You are altering the way all your cells are built and the body is needing to change quite a bit.

re: itching, if you have access to a sauna or just sitting in a hot car and building up a good sweat, then doing a cold dunk in an icy shower or bath, this helped me a ton, not just for itchy transition-y keto stuff but it boosted my mood and detoxed my skin of oils that my body was having trouble utilizing in the first few weeks.

Hi Stacy, I went on the Keto diet to get healthier, lose weight and take some stress off my back which has caused me to quit working. I had inquired about weight loss surgery and have to diet 6 months and be supervised so I chose this diet . I am hoping to lose enough so I can fore go the surgery .

You absolutely CAN avoid that disaster! Give us a sample diet for a day or two and your stats. We’ll figure out whats going on. If your going by any specific macro percentages, or something more specific let us know as well.

You don’t need weight loss surgery. You just need to have faith in yourself, and KETO

Take control of you, and the rest will follow.

I have to run out for a bit, but I have several ideas that I will share as soon as I get back.

Are you using an app to track your carbs? If you’ve inquired about WLS, I’m assuming that you are obese and have an unhealthy relationship with food. When I started tracking, I realized how much food I actually ate daily. I’m still amazed at how long stuff lasts in our house now that I’m not eating it - a box of opened crackers, cookies, milk, jam, loaves of bread. I didn’t recognize that I ate so much.

This is just going to be my own thoughts that I hope might help you make your best decision. I have several family members that have had weight loss surgery. I know it can be very frustrating to not be able to reach your goals and to see others doing it through surgery. It does work but just like calorie restricting, it is hard to maintain. They were able to maintain longer but they have still gained quite a bit back. THey still struggle with their weight and they have taken the risk that accompanies surgery.
If you are going to try Keto, give yourself a good amount of time to get adapted. Don’t weigh or worry about weight during that period. Start learning all that you can so you can tweak your diet to fit you best. There are so many great resources to learn from. I love listening to podcast and I get tons done while I do it. Once you get really grounded in what you are doing, then start weighing and focusing on losing weight. Maybe find a good support system or a nutritionalist to help you. Down the roars you may even want to start looking into hormones and seeing if there are hormones that need fixing. Hormones can really wreak havoc on our bodies.
I hope this helps and doesn’t stress you out.

The person assisting me with this has set my carb intake at 100 grams a day. For breakfast I usually did a shake from Thrive 110 calories, 2g fat, 9 g carbs, fiber 5 g , sugar 2 g and protien 15 g
Lunch usually a protein and vegetable and supper again protein and a salad protein being eggs, beef , pork, chicken, and carbs added would be salad dressings and some of the vegetables

I have gone from 267.4 to 269.4 in a months time and increased my body fat percentage by 1. 4 since the first weigh in.

On Keto you should only be eating 20 Net Grams of Carbs a day or less! I believe that is the biggest issue you may be having if you are consuming 100 Grams a day or even remotely close to that.

Okay… I thought you were discouraged because you gained so that’s what I was focusing on. I guess someone else will have to weigh in on the itching because my wife and I never had that.
