Unfortunately no jokes here. The amount of EXPERTS parroting all this crap, all over the media, is unbelievable.
Disappointed in certain authors
Yeah, carnivores obviously don’t follow that I eat more for a decent meal. But it’s the same for eggs. I barely eat eggs now but easily more for a meal that is still recommended per week (not like I remember how much is that at the moment).
These amounts are quite laughable every time I read about them. Even for normal high-carbers. My SO eats more red meat per week I am very sure. But it depends. Now he made curry with almost 2kg chicken breasts and he goes through it at an impressive speed… So he eats less red meat right now but usually he eats a cute amount, not those recommended morsels.
@Carburetor: Thanks, I like to see dietary guidelines for other countries! Ours don’t hope for less than 350g red meat per week as it would require some very weird thinking (full denial, belief in bigger miracles, IDK)… Anyway, it turned out there is a 10 years old campaign about eating more Mangalica and fatty pork in general and it was successful, our consumption went up significantly. Well, for pork, Mangalica is more expensive, less available and many Hungarians are quite price sensitive. I personally find normal pork awesome enough already and I need to eat leaner (maybe not anymore, I have trained myself well but it’s better to be careful).
I looked up our data, 1577g/week for meat (seafood not included), more than 1kg/week for pork. Similar as in neighbour countries. And it’s raising.
Ultimately, how one eats is a personal choice, but it is good to be aware that a more plant-based diet not only reduces health risks
And I just accept this as the ultimate truth. Sure.
I even have problems with “as little as possible” but everyone can interpret it as they want… I just feel sorry for the ones who interpret it literally and uses zero even when a tiny amount would make them loads happier (and potentially healthier if they don’t have a good other option and choose something worse). Many of us can handle a small amount of good processed stuff (like sausages with perfectly fine ingredients) or even toxin (alcohol), no need to keep it zero even if we actually could do it.
How much red meat Finnish people eat now I wonder…
By the way no better options… I really find it important to consider the alternative. While someone in their little dreamworld tower may think that fine, people just eat legumes and seitan and pea powder instead of red meat and all is better, reality is surely not like that. If I take away meat, my diet doesn’t always go into that (for me, not horrible though definitely not great) direction… I just add things I fancy at the moment and my tastebuds still don’t always in agreement with my hedonist inner self whose main priority is health and feeling well (while eating tasty food, of course but there is almost never a problem there, good, healthy, nutritious food tends to be super tasty, not always but there are options so I can choose a good one).
You guys surely know that adding some (more or less innocent but at least protein containing) carbs may damage our decision making or at least the hardships regarding choosing well… I keep my taste and mind but I definitely get troublesome desires if my circumstances “help” too.
I’m beginning to sound like a conspiracy theoretic but I started my lo carb journey around 2000. The official recommendations have cut meat and fat more and more, year by year, while the population gets fatter and fatter.
So many are on some kind of medication, now stuff like Ozempic is becoming a common “fix” for ordinary people even around my Facebook bubble.
It’s feeling like this could one day be a law! … be OK if I can have some vegans allocation
Towns, schools, hospitals, care centers… they are following these new recommendations voluntarily already.
I don’t think this will ever happen. If any politician stands up and says this will be law I think they know it will be an instant vote loser. Politicians are smarter than that. They know they need to get elected again.
If it was ever turned into law in my country (Australia), I would instantly be a politician: I would become a full time campaigner against such madness.
