I’ve not been cheating for over a month now. I’m eating keto, counting my macros, keeping my net carb below 20 and yet, have digestive issues everyday. I’ve been either constipated or down with diarrhoea. On top of that, I am being unable to eat half the food I used to: I’ve completely cut out whey protein, I’m insensitive to ghee, recently I’m not being able to digest eggs at all, from the last week i’m bloated if I eat mutton. I’m constipated immediately, if I have peanuts. I have diarrhoea if I have coconut flakes. It’s becoming terrible. I tested my C reactive protein, which was within the normal range. I’m not hungry throughout the day. I only eat lunch. That too, I feel like over eating often. I’m full by the time I reach 600-800 calories, which is dangerously low. I try to eat more fat so that I can at least reach 1200 Cals but I feel unwell. Can you believe that I bloat if I have chia or basil seeds? I’m not being able to digest anything with erythritol, or any flavouring substance. My body is giving up, which isn’t a good thing. I’m taking apple cider vinegar raw capsules. Should I switch back to the terrible cocktail instead? Am I drinking less water? Heeeeeelllllpppppppppp
P.s. I’ve also been exercising. I’m doing everything I thought would make it right. It’s not working.
Digesting anything I eat
When first starting keto, to become fat adapted there is a requirement from the body to change the digestive system to handle a different diet. No longer is the main staple carb and glucose based but fat based. The old gut biome enzymes and bacteria that were digesting the old diet no longer work and the body needs to restructure the bile. The old biome is eliminated during the transition period and new enzymes and bacteria have to be created. This is part of the adaption process and does take some time. ACV, fermented foods, live cultures (yogurt), supplements, etc can help this along. You are going to experience digestion issues during this process, but given time (and patience) the body will mostly balance these out.
Concerning volume and frequency, your body is becoming more efficient at utilizing the fuels you are supplying it with and feeding frequency has been cut to a better controlled feeding time schedule (as opposed to a daily grazing schedule) so it results in smaller byproducts expelled less frequently.
I also wouldn’t exercise right now as your body needs all the energy it can get for the adaption process and to make the changes. Exercise might actually be hindering the process.
Thanks thanks!!! Kimchi and Greek yogurt(homemade) and ACV …I can do these three.
Also I missed to note a very important thing: I am recovering from Candida. It’s dying out, leaving me bloated all the time. I always feel like having unprocessed foods in my stomach.
If you could go all-meat until the Candida finishes dying off, that might help. And just a reminder to keep your electrolytes up, since you don’t need low-sodium issues on top of everything else!
I’m sorry you are in such a state right now, but if you can survive this without going back to carbs you won’t ever have to worry about Candida again.
