Did I mess up....?

Hey everyone so I started keto in Feb and by March 1st I lost 56lbs. I was 566lbs. Here is where I think I went wrong I didn’t realize I wasn’t really eating any fat at all and cooked most my stuff in vegetables spray. Barley drank water and never really ate fruit or veggies. All I was really eating was beef and bacon and eggs . I devolped mild anxiety and lots of shakiness then went antidepressants because my doctor that that was the cause…

Brandon, those are good to excellent results as far as weight loss goes typically for men its around 10% in the first few weeks it was for me as well. You should really be drinking water, lots of water. Veggies you should concentrate on are leafy greens, spinach, asparagus etc. Eating fat is important and you gettting some in the bacon, eggs and beef, but you should be eating butter, EVO, and coconut oil. Avoid the cooking spray unless you know the ingredients are one of those three. I would suggest that you post in the newbie forum lots of help there.

Do you know your macros yet? That is really the first step, then figuring out how to fill them out.
I would eat to macro for the first 3-4 weeks to get your body used to keto, then you can start to back off the fat. You also should start salting things, when you visited your doctor did they take you BP? You will start to flush salt out and that was a big thing for me at first.

So I prob wasn’t getting enough fat or not the right fats…also yeah I’ve actually switched my diet to a regular nutrition diet and I started excersise. I guess that has alot to do with the problems I produced :frowning: but over time it shall get better

IMHO you are, maybe not perfect but its working as your body started to dump water to use the fat reserves. My geuss is your keytone levels are up. The trans fat thing is an easy fix, the reason you want the butter etc is that is providing your body with another source of energy instead of glucose. There is no way to screw up keto you are either in keto or you are not no hard and fast rules, mainly keep your carbs under 20g. My geuss is your shakes are either withdrawals or salt/minerals or a little of both. You are asking your body to do a lot so be patient ask questions and eat fat when you get a craving for sugar. Add a little salt to your water, keep your electolytes in check, I use MIO a lot but some people react to it. You are your own experiment (n=1) what I do may not work for you.

There is a part of this that rubs me so the wrong way.

Stop.

Get help.

That is very true . I was boarder line diabettic and that went down to a avrg 6 and also I’m on high blood pressure medication . Plus being on the antidepressants for a week I guess with all this going on it’s alot haha . Yeah I wasnt really using any salt ethier plus like I said wasn’t excersise or drinking alot of water

I do not think Macros are important beyond 20g of carb and .8 -1.5g of protein (more or less) per kilo of lean body mass. Once you are fat adapted your body will take the fat from your body and will not notice a deficit.

Absolutely drink lots of water, supplement with salt and possibly other trace minerals. Cortisol goes up initially as you transition from a sugar burner to a fat burner but I think I am less anxious on keto. The first week I made huge scene at my local bank over something ridiculous which is not like me but after that I was calmer than usual

No matter what diet you are on please avoid seed oils, they are inflammatory. Soy, canola, corn and sunflower are very unhealthy if they are industrially processed. I only cook with avocado, coconut and light olive (low heat only) and butter and meat fat. The sprays have propellants in the can. I use the misto which you can buy for $10 or less and use your own oil. I have been doing that for years

It is, you should listen to the podcasts if you have not already. In your case you really need to be talking to your doctor more, my BP went through the floor in the first weeks, keep them informed of your intentions.

There are tremendous resources available - use them well.

The meds and the conditions for which the meds were prescribed complicate things, no joking matter.

(Brandon) #11

Yeah my doctor just says stick to what your doing it’s a long process. Plus I’m seeing a natropathic doctor so we can find out mabey I’m lacking on something which I truly feel I am haha plus in working with a nutritionist.natrual is the best way to go

(Brandon) #12

Oh it’s definitely not a joking matter at all . Which I’ve received plenty of help already . I’ve been getting better believe it or not but like I said no one really needs any medication if you get the right things in your body to make you function properly!

(Brandon) #13

You will find that there are a lot of folks that have been in a “boat” very much like yours here as you poke around the forums. Look at the “over 100 pounds lost” (something like that, try searching just 100 pounds or century club) thread. Pick their brains - that’s what we’re all here for, to give each other a hand.
