Did anyone eat keto naturally as a child?

I did, my family used to make fun of me because all I wanted was the fat from the big cuts of meat they made. I called it the blubber and they gladly gave it all to me, I was super skinny too and I used to drink cap-fulls of vinegar because I craved it. I wouldn’t eat anything else and they made fun of me and laughed giving me their blubber.

diabetes is rampant in my family, I never got hit with the diabetes stick and I wonder if it has to do from my eating habits as a child? I’ve noticed my child that looks like me also has my old eating habits of high fat and low carbs, he doesn’t ever want anything sweet, I haven’t caught him nipping at that acv but neither did my mom ever catch me.

I like your post- interesting.

I have found the keto WOE pretty easy- so far, at least. I always liked keto type foods as a child; but got easily swept into standard SAD. One thing that strikes me now- is how much energy I have, and how I generally don’t get super tired after eating a meal, anymore. When I was young, and into adulthood; I would get so tired after eating. I feel like maybe a lot of that may have been due to not tolerating carbs well. I have two young boys now. One looks just like mom, the younger one looks just like me. Two things I’ve noticed- the younger one is almost always complaining of being tired, shortly after eating; the other one- never. He doesn’t display a distinct preference for the Keto foods I eat, though. Like most younger brothers, probably, he tries to eat like his older brother. Also, there is no denying, that he has a sweet tooth- like most young kids. For me- it will be interesting to see how he goes. My kids are aware that I eat different; but obviously don’t understand why. I’m glad that someday they will be able to see or be aware that diet is something that can be individualized.

I went a little off with all those facebook desserts I was seeing all the time. I don’t know why I wasted my time and money on them, I hate the taste of fake sugars. But it was easy for me to snap back and and get into ketosis only after 3 days of cutting out all the bs foods I was eating.

When I was little I craved salt too and used to just lick it off my hand if I wasn’t pouring it over my cucumbers and vinegar. I’m fairly sure I was in ketosis most of my childhood. In fact I never remember even being hungry or having much of an appetite until I got pregnant in my 20’s and then things changed.

I don’t feel especially anti the low carb sugars. I do however like to make desserts that don’t need added sugar. My palate has changed signigicantly on keto and I don’t want to add these sugars to my WOE if I can help it. Frozen berries, cream, vanilla, cinnamon have been to go to so far. However I do want to make a cheesecake without any low sugar aids.

I made a cheesecake during my break over the holidays, unfortunately I found Splenda at Ikea for my coffee and decided this taste the best so I added that in my pecan, walnut, cinnamon, butter and almond flour crust. I just eyeballed it, no measuring. I tasted it and decided it needed 6 packets of splenda and now I think that wasn’t necessary. I did bake it for 30 minutes. for my filling I used 1 packet of cream cheese and a tub of cool whip with another 6 packets of splenda. It was the best tasting cheesecake and I had to eat it all, all by myself. luckily, I didn’t gain any weight! I did manage to maintain my weight though because that’s all i was eating during the day, 2-3 slices a day until it was gone.

I have always been drawn to keto foods though I probably ate the carbs too. I think of the heavy meals that I have been drawn to as a young adult and realise that I would have loved them anyway without the carbs. Fatty stews, heavy meats and foods.

I love eating keto foods and I can easily leave the carbs. I am also drawn to non-sweet desserts. I now find that milk, cream etc have natural sweetness.
