Yesterday I woke up & like i normally do, tested my ketones. They were 1.6, i was happy with that, especially after not tracking my food from the day before & having a few drinks (work function). I did feel a little bloated (probably from the alcohol) so i fasted for 18 hours yesterday. Had keto lunch, and dinner. & that’s where things took a turn…
I can’t seem to shake my sweet tooth after dinner. I want candy (always SF) or some halo top, or a mug cake. All keto-friendly. BUT -I had a few bites of my son’s leftover choc chip cookie from Starbucks (obvi not keto lol) and OMG was it good, but now i kinda regret it. Cause my ketones this morning were .05  so i was planning on fasting this morning (i usually do anyways) and working out this afternoon. But the things i need help with are: how can i keep from snacking on sweets after dinner & what can i do today at the gym that will help burn the sugar & carbs up but not require me to eat afterwards? I would like to fast as long as i can today to burn through it all. Help meeee

How I defeated my sweet tooth was to eliminate all artificial sweeteners -all- so no sugar since February, no artificial sweeteners since early June, I now never have any cravings for anything sweet. Keep your carbs under 20 grams, adequate proteins, healthy fats, lots of water, and Electrolytes.

Once you are strictly following all this, and fat adapted, these cravings will disappear. To do this, you cannot cheat though.

If you download cronometer.com it is a free app that will help you keep track. You have to keep the carbs low to be in ketosis and stay on track. Best wishes =).

I usually don’t cheat ‘off keto’ if i have treats they’re always keto friendly, but i think i am going to do that- i need to kick the sweeteners entirely because i also think it’s stalling my weight loss. I would just love to be able to have dinner & then not automatically think about dessert because of my sweet tooth. I will try a cup of decaf coffee & see if that helps.

Any advice on what i should be doing at the gym to burn it off & kick those ketones up?

i went to the gym on my lunch break and did some strength training and 5 mins of running at the end. So i’ll hopefully have better results on my ketones tomorrow morning since i burned up that sugar in my system. I’m just not sure if i want to break my fast now or if i should keep fasting longer!?

I usually drink a cup of peppermint tea after dinner, just sweet enough!

I tried that the other night and it worked i think! but i might try brushing my teeth or using teeth whitening strips to make it very apparent to myself that WE ARE NOT EATING ANYTHING ELSE! Haha
& that way my fasting window is able to be longer if i stop eating after dinner.

I keep seeing that people are using coconut oil to brush their teeth to whiten them, I keep meaning to try this… =).

I definitely associate the end of my eating windows with a final sweet taste in my mouth. Somehow without the tea, my brain stays on the prowl!

Sometimes I brush my teeth too, it really does help!

Oh kinda like oil pulling? Interesting…might have to try that!

Ok i’ll try that tonight!! I drink black coffee so my teeth could use whitening on the regular too

Also, i just discovered an awesome coffee concoction! Black americano, cinnamon powder & a TINY bit of half & half (just enough to change the color or one of those mini moo coffee cart cups) This might be my newest obsession-& it may satisfy my sweet tooth at night (decaf of course) so I’ll try that if tea doesn’t do it for me!

You might want to drop the alcohol.

Look at your post - wake up feeling good with good numbers - then alcohol - then all downhill, fasting to try to recover and / or make up for lost time.

Alcohol can give you bloating, dehydration, constipation, diarrhea, the munchies, poor sleep, reduced inhibitions and hamper good decision making (also, alcohol’s effects are stronger when you are on Keto - so all of these are worse).

It can take 72 hours or more for all of that correct and your body will be reminding you that comfort foods (like a cookie) would really be nice.

I’m not a drinker, so this was a special occasion type of thing, i don’t normally drink. but that would make sense as to why my sweet tooth was SO bad last night. but 24 hours had passed since i had drank when i ate some cookie, so i’m not sure if that matters or not?

Alcohol leaves your system faster than that but, that is not the point.

It is what it does while it is there (starts bad sleep cycles, dehydration, digestion issues etc.) that take much longer to get back to normal.

Keto (for weight loss) and alcohol don’t play well, so good you are not a drinker.

Update- worked out on my lunch yesterday, fasted for 23 hrs (OMAD) and no snacking after dinner. Tested my Ketones this morning & got .06 so I’m moving in the right direction :clap:t3: I’m kind of wanting to do a long fast like that again today and see what my levels are tomorrow. It wasn’t hard going that long without food, I just felt like eating all though I wasn’t actually hungry. And when I did, I just had some SF gum and that helped.
