Diabetes and Ketogenic diet

Last Nov my HBA1C was it’s highest at 6.6 and Dr retested and it was 6.4 and that did not stop her from increasing my dose of metformin from 500mg/ day to 1500mg / day. It also meant I was official diabetic now. I had been struggling to reverse/ stay prediabetic for 6 years .It was high time for me to make a radical change and I choose to do the Keto diet.
Yesterday I came upon an ithrive series of 9 episodes which are about obesity and diabetes.
Since they are free only until tomorrow.
I slimmed through episode 1&2 but did watch the whole of episode 3 and am writing to you to learn about what has been discussed in this episode. For people short of time please watch episode 3 from 25 mins onwards. Dr. Fung is also speaking but the solution sounded more like a wise compromise rather than treating the underlying cause.
I sure have seen a dramatic improvement in the symptoms but the reason Iam trying to probe , understand and learn more is because My paternal grandmother got diabetes in her 50’s , my dad at 41 and I was gestational diabetic followed by prediabetic at 32 and the trend across generations is alarming ( probably because both my maternal grandparents were diabetics too) and at this rate my child may have it in 20’s so I am really scared .
Please watch :pray::pray::pray:

And share your thoughts :pray::pray::pray:

I don’t have a lot of time this morning, but I did watch the short bit at the 25 minute mark. Well, he is very passionate, but poorly informed. There are many physicians and researchers who are better informed on the science, who disagree. Also, instead of saying that the type 2 diabetes is cured, one could say instead REVERSED. He is sort of correct in saying that if you go back to eating a high carb diet, you will lose most if not all of the benefits gained by eating ketogenically. My understanding, however, is that you will NOT be worse off.

You might watch this presentation by Dr. Volek

It is kind of technical, but may put your mind at ease about the possibility of the Keto diet’s potential to reverse insulin resistance.

Others may well have better answers or references for you.

Hope this helps ease your mind.

Have you watched Dr. Fung’s videos?
https://idmprogram.com/videos/

Ithrive is vegetarian/vegan oriented so I won’t be watching their series.
If you are already eating that way, then try intermittent fasting along with using only the healthiest of oils, coconut, avocado and olive oils, ditch the other seed oils. Make sure you dump all sugars and high starchy veggies as well. I have a dear friend who is vegan and she had stalled out on weight loss for years now. When I started fasting, she decided to try it and IFing has enabled her to get to her desired weight.

Good luck on your Journey.

Thank you :pray:
I am yet to read the obesity code and watch his videos…
I am doing IF .
Probably that is what is helping with the weight loss. It’s at snail’s pace but scale is moving.
My major source of fats are from ghee , coconut oil and oilive oil.
I am unfortunately allergic to avocados but the oil when used for high heated seasoning doesn’t bother me but Iam hesitant to try it otherwise.
Nuts & cream ( hwc, sour , cheese) seem to stall my weight loss so I kind of avoid them deliberately. I do treat myself to them once in a while though.

Listen to http://2ketodudes.com podcast. They have diabetes and been on keto since 2016. Very informative…

TD2 reversal us totally possible on keto. I was an insulin dependent diabetic on 2000mg of metformin. Started keto Dec2016. By Feb 2017 my blood sugars were in the normal range. Ditched the insulin but continued the metformin on half the dose. Restarted keto Dec 2017 after an unsatisfying stint as a vegan. Now my A1C is 5.3, technically non diabetic. Lost 34 lbs and managing my mental health. I’m a happy camper and will tell anyone who will listen long enough the advantages of keto.
