Its another name for sugar, so best to stay away if possible.

I have been trying not to have any artificial sweeteners now as well; but if I end up having any I prefer to stick to Erythritol or Xylitol. From what I have read, these two seem to be the best for Keto.

Dextrose is a sugar, but it’s added in minuscule amounts for reasons other than sweetening a food. Dextrose has unique properties in food applications. It is useful as a carrier for other things that are effective in tiny quantities like transglutaminase, or “meat glue”. An amino acid enzyme that’s present naturally in meat but has been grown artificially now with bacteria similar to Xanthan Gum and some other food enhancers. Transglutaminase is used in all oval shaped lunch meat loaves like deli turkey, chicken and ham that isn’t cut from solid pieces of meat to bond them together.

Dextrose also absorbs fat and turns it into a powder. This is butter flavored popcorn sprinkles and cheese powder.

It’s put in high fat sausage links and hot dogs to absorb some of the grease so it doesn’t spew out all over your plate when you cut into them.

Personally I don’t worry about trace sugars like dextrose which make up way less than a gram of sugar in a serving. It’s hard to find sausages with none. One pound of dextrose is like a big bucket full.
