Dexa Scan vs Bone Density test

In Missouri we need a Drs request for a DEXA scan. Would someone explain the difference between a bone density and DEXA scan test? My doctor says they are the same. For some reason I’m thinking that the DEXA scan tells us about our bones, body fat percentage and one other item. I did some research online, but I’m not finding any clarity. Thanks

They are the same technology. A DEXA scan will provide details about bone density, muscle and fat. The report it is programmed to print may vary. I don’t know what a DEXA report from a medical facility looks like. My DEXA scan, done by a company that caters to fitness enthusiasts, generated a report that had the information.
