Can’t blame the govt for everything. Public schools hire private firms like Aramark for food service, and Aramark gladly sells kids sodas and pizza and chips and cookies. Mostly packaged, high margin, high carb products. Just like they do to adults. Hook’em when they’re young and make them loyal Coke and Twinkies customers for life.
Don’t kid yourself, the kids don’t want the healthy lunches provided, which ironically probably more closely follow govt guidelines. And kids don’t want to bring lunch. They want to buy goodies. I have a daughter in school and a wife that uses to work as a lunch room supervisor, that’s how it works.
Yes, I’m surprised too by what food schools allow private firms to sell to kids in school. It’s a captive audience and it’s very profitable.
