Dentist knows Low Carb

(Richard M) #1

I had to have a tooth pulled. The dentist asked me about my blood pressure and snoring. I said I had neither since I lost a lot weight. Then to my surprise we were talking about low carb, frequency of eating, statin, type of food to eat, exercise and a lot of other things that are discussed in here.

I was very happy to discuss these topics with an actual doctor who supports low carb. He said he’s not looked to kindly on by other doctors for his position on low carb and taking little to no prescription drugs. We even follow some of the same keto doctors.

In case you might be wondering he came from a different country. If that matters.

That actually does matter. For some reason, doctors/dentists who come from other countries just think differently about this stuff.

Except that this forum is made up of citizens of many different countries! My country might be your “different”. Lol. Where are you located, Richard?

I live in Iowa. Doctor I visited was in South Dakota.

Yup! My formerly awesome Functional Med Doc (just sold her practice) got her MD in India, so she didn’t have any of the brainwashing that we always have to deal with. Basically practiced like a DO, and was all about natural stuff if she thought it would work for people.

Wow, I think that’s very cool. I would love it if any of my doctors supported low carb.

I had a colleague who had a doctor from Nigeria (we’re in the US) he loved. Had none of this “you have to take a statin!” nonsense.

I tend to get the “you need to exercise more and eat less” crowd. I hesitate to tell them I lost a lot of weight simply by not eating carbs, while at the same time REDUCING my exercise. And not counting calories. And while not being hungry and eating as much as I wanted to eat.

Now, my exercise has gone up again, but it’s not because I’m exercising to lose weight. I’m trying to get my dog some exercise 2 days a week, while I do body weight training 3 days a week.

That’s refreshing.
My PCP is amazed at my weight loss and health improvements and is on board with me cutting out carbs but unfortunately he insists on being low fat and taking statins. Oh well!

My cardiologist who is American of Indian descent is on board with my lifestyle because of the results he’s seen in me.
