hey guys and gals. i’m on day 8 of keto currently. when i was doing my shopping last week, i wasn’t even thinking about it and accidentally bought sliced honey turkey from the deli since that’s what i was used to eating pre-keto. ill post a pic of the nutrition of it below. would eating something like this slow down the process of reaching ketosis / becoming fat-adapted? i know sugar is bad in all forms, but since it’s pretty low in that area, would i be okay if i ate this once every few days only? if not, i can throw it out, but i REALLY hate wasting food and feel that would be a shame. but i just want to do what’s best for my diet and health. thanks!
Deli honey turkey?
It depends on how much you’re eating. If it fits into your daily allotment, go for it.
Personally, I’d eat it and not worry about it. However, if you’re going to stress about it, perhaps you could take some kitchen scissors or a knife and trim the outside (“skin”) area since that’s where the sugar coating is sitting anyway.
Eat it in portions that dont screw up your day, then don’t buy it again! Well, you can, but you’d do better with regular turkey cuts, and ground turkey (a fave of mine).
Good luck!
I really don’t see a big problem looking at this label.
Supposing that you only ate a normal 30 grams of protein here, that is still under 6 grams of carbs. Just keep that in mind as the day progresses with the rest of your meals.
thanks! i was more-so concerned about the sugar since turkey’s not especially a great source of it (at least not compared to something like cauliflower or certain other veggies which also have a bit of sugar), but the general consensus here seems to be that that’s not a big issue. and believe it or not, i actually only eat the recommended 2oz portion at a time, which equates to three slices. throw it on some lettuce wraps with swiss and mayo and i’m good to go
Well, if that’s all your eating in that case, at 2 grams for carbs, I probably acquire more carbs just from kissing my girl-friend because of her cherry lipstick. Your good to go!
