Day 9-Keto

#1

Can someone please tell me if I’m in ketosis?
This is my ketone test from today.

Yes.

Hi and welcome! My take is on these strips or blood tests is throw them in the trash! You will learn over time how to listen to your body and know when you are in fat burning mode. I used an app to track my macros and never did any testing and lost 40 pounds. So many people get obsessive with testing it can discourage some. Welcome to the forum!

It’s true that many people get obsessed about testing for ketones, especially people who don’t fully understand either what they’re actually measuring or its significance. On the other hand, subjective criteria are even worse. What exactly is ‘clarity of mind’ or ‘increased energy’. My ‘clarity’ might be your ‘mind fog’, my ‘increased energy’ your ‘carb hangover’. What if I didn’t lose 20 pounds the first month? Or haven’t lost any weight? What if ‘listening to my body’ resulted in prediabetic insulin resistance? What if burning fat doesn’t feel any different from burning glucose?

The only reliable subjective test for ketosis is to stop eating carbs and if you are still alive and conscious 4 days later you are definitely in ketosis. There is no harm doing objective tests for acetoacetate in urine, acetone in breath and/or β-hydroxybutyrate in blood. Just keep in mind it’s a very dynamic and noisy system, but the presence of ketones indicates ketosis.

If you’ve been under 20 net carbs for a few days, you’re in ketosis.

Yes, it matches moderate. Here is a useful article as you begin your journey.

Welcome to the forum, Jordee =). Congrats, you are in Ketosis =). I have never used those though, and have been doing Keto since February. Personally, unless you have a significant medical reason to have them (ie: cancer, diabetes, etc I don’t feel that they are necessary).

@Momof5 is right. They aren’t necessary and can make you second guess yourself as you progress. Welcome to the forum and congratulations for taking charge of your health!
