Day 3 beef and butter fast - almost sick?

Hi,

I am 2 months in keto and have been dabbling with 24 fasts with good results. Fell off and had pizza this past Sunday because I could not seem to feel full (also felt anxious which is why I caved on the pizza). I immediately did a 27 hour fast, then went into a beef and butter fast. The increased numbers on the scale from the pizza were gone after Weighing in this morning. Yay! BUT, I just had my beef and butter lunch and almost brought it back up.

Has anyone experienced this? Should I not have tried this after the 27 hour fast? I am a little scared about dinner now but at the same time I have also felt hungrier today, like on Sunday.

Any advice appreciated.

Where you failed was the beef and butter fast. Just ignore all the weird keto witch-doctery, if you eat some Pizza… SO WHAT? You’ll burn off the carbs, you’ll deplete your glycogen again and it’s back to business. If you want to fast the next day fine, or if not, that’s fine too. Just like a low fat high carb eater, they binge on fatty foods too, then they go back to eating normal for them without doing weirdo stuff to “fix” it, which you can’t do. You can only move on from there. If you’re going to do this long term just accept that ALWAYS eating on plan simply isn’t realistic for the majority. We’re GOING to eat crap that’s not keto friendly sometimes… just KCKO.

That does make sense but I was so afraid that I knocked myself out of ketosis, guess I panicked. I tend to go overboard and have a hard time trusting that if I am not “perfect” I will not succeed. I guess this is a personal growth journey as well as new way of eating. Thanks for the encouragement!

I think you did knock yourself out of ketosis with the pizza. However what you ate after fasting probably was just heavy for your stomach. My prediction is you’ll feel okay next time you eat. There’s nothing wrong with beef and butter, calling it a fast isn’t correct though, that’s just eating carnivore and I have had lots of meals for days on end eating only beef and butter, I just call it carnivore and not fasting. @lfod14 are you saying that eating beef and butter is keto witch-doctory?

I don’t have the problem with trying to be perfect myself. However I don’t just lose it and eat carbs, it’s a conscious decision when I do and I accept the consequences without guilt, what good does that do anyway? Careful though, it’s easy to increase the frequency of these events and if you start falling off keto it can be hard getting back for many people. I don’t recommend higher carb occasional meals till you’re about 3 months strict 20gcarbs until you’re well into being fat adapted :cowboy_hat_face:

Thanks David, you are right, I did make the decision to eat the pizza knowing what it could/would do. I have to try not to be so hard on myself. I tend to eat less then 15 net carbs a day, so no issues with that!

Butter and beef should be fine but it’s individual what kind of meal we handle well after a pretty short, 27 hour fast… Some people can’t even eat a proper meal after, just a tiny one first… I don’t know how much you ate, maybe it was too much for you. Or maybe you didn’t desire this food but forced upon yourself. I would gag and stop if I tried to force too many of my staple food on myself even if the amount of food isn’t too big but I need more variety (I know as I had no options once and tried).

It would have been fine just going back to keto… Carnivore sounds good to me after such happenings but you have more options even then and if you aren’t ready for it, don’t do it.

This does not have to be that hard

When I started Many in my family and elsewhere would say But you giving up so Much Its sooo restrictive

2 and half weeks in I was listening to Youtube Don’t remember her name Dr something or other Said about starting to Eat some wings on your first day eat as much as you want

I was feeling down about some of the things I couldn’t have and Though Wings I haven’t been able to have that on all my diets that didn’t work out for years

So I went to buffalo wild wings got a bunch on wings with buffalo dry rub and some blue cheese and then it occurred to me I am gaining way more then I am giving up

What would I rather give up the Burger for the Bun??

I get to eat all that awesome stuff I have been told to stay away from if I were to ever lose weight

I learned to eat when hungry a real meal and to stop snacking and then everything is a natural progression from there start spreading meals as I become less hungry and more fat-adapted

Now that I am ready I can IF 18/6 some days OMAD But I wouldn’t do that well with it in the 1st month

First, find some foods especially meats and low to 0 carb stuff you like and just eat when hungry and not when you not eat meals and cut out snacking and don’t worry about any fasting or anything else

Also, have some emergency 0 and low carb stuff to get you through the early cravings

Stay under 20 carbs and don’t worry if you eat too much and don’t worry about the scale for the 1st month Then you will have a better feel for what your body needs and is ready for

Well I ended the day with scrambled eggs instead of beef/butter. I do feel I was forcing myself to eat what I really did not want (nor was it appealing). Going forward I will definitely only eat when hungry and what I want, life will be much simpler that way! :crazy_face:

This can be such a fun journey

There are so many good foods you don’t need to force yourself to eat what you don’t want

Think about what foods you can have in the fridge for emergency as well
Easy stuff I used to keep salami and provolone,

If I needed something quick easy to take an ounce of salami and roll it in 2 slice of provolone some grain mustard
I also keep Hard boiled eggs cooked bacon in fridge You can take cooked bacon in a ziplock in the car when out

I have heard you can get 0 carb beef jerky on amazon
Pork Grids really helped with the chip pretzel urge early on too

Need low to 0 carb easy access food for when you just need something fast
