Day 2 and already some change!

Okay I figure it’s probably water weight, but I’ve lost a kilo. In 24 hours. Water retention loss or not, I’ll take it thank you very much.
Yesterday afternoon I suddenly felt quite ill; (my body reacts fast to any change) and my chest felt like I had bronchitis or pneumonia or some such; I thought I would pass out. So… off I went to get some sugar free and carb free electrolytes, and some potassium. It did the trick.
This morning I welcomed my eggs and half cup of steamed cabbage sauteed in butter and coconut oil, and my cup of earl grey tea with a teaspoonful of butter, a tablespoon of cream, and some MCT oil.
I couldn’t eat it all. I am bracing myself for when the cravings kick in tho, because there is no way in heck this is gonna be that easy!
I’ve also started measuring my water and happily drank 2L yesterday, and a cup of peppermint tea (yes with cream). It would be great to have a blog section on this forum, I’m enjoying reading about other people’s early day experiences.

Everyone is different in terms of cravings. Some days are very easy and some are more difficult. Overall though, I personally have noticed that most of the time I’m just not hungry. I love pizza though. So when I feel like some pizza I make a Fathead Pizza and boy does that do the trick. Look around and you should be able to find a keto version of the foods you love for when that craving does kick in. Also, good job with the electrolytes!

If you plan what you will eat for the day, and when, it will help counter the cravings. You’ll be surprised at how much is in your head vs actual physical cravings.

Good luck it sounds like you’re off to a great start!

You can create your own “blog” in the Accountability section! :sunglasses:

Fathead pizza?! What is this deliciousness sounding thing of which you speak, oh tempter! Do share, is the recipe on this forum? You have my undivided attention…

Thanks Pete, I’ll look for that. The forum navigation is still very new for me. Thanks again.

I don’t crave carbs anymore. I actually crave fat! But like cheese and things like that. So hopefully you will get that way soon too. And I second the planning meals thing. If you have a bad relationship with food like I do (binging) you need to come to terms with that first or you’ll sabotage any diet. If your issue isn’t overeating then I don’t think you’ll struggle too much. I used to think this was the hardest diet ever but now I think it’s easy  good luck on your journey!

Thanks Samantha. My main issue, i think, has been lack of discipline in the type of things I eat, and lack of discipline in actually eating. Like a camel I can do a day without eating and then when i do my body thinks its starving and holds onto everything. Holding down two jobs and running a home as well as manufacturing products means I’m often always on the go and so I’d basically eat crap just to tell my body to shut up. If I’m honest, this is the truth. Oh - and if I DID sit down in front of the telly at the end of a long day, I’d break out the sweets and chocolates. Getting 3-5 hours of sleep was the cherry on top that totally buggered me up. I need the discipline in eating that i exercise in all else.

I get it 100%. I’m the same way. And not sleeping enough can make you so hungry. I don’t know if you guys have them there, but I’m in the US and we have drive thru fast food. When I’m running around busy and I get hungry I’ll just go through one. And the food they serve is so full of sugar and crap that you actually crave it. Cutting sugar cold turkey has helped so much with my sugar cravings. But I think the thing that help me the most was making my food ahead of time. Because when I would get hungry and think I need food now I just remind myself I have food in the fridge to heat up and then eventually would start to crave that food. I have to force myself to make meals so that I have no excuse to cheat because I can’t say that I don’t have Keto-friendly food. So sometimes I’m prepping food until midnight. But it’s usually just one or two days a week. And I do that until I’m confident that I will make good eating decisions/ habits in the future. I guess these are the sacrifices we have to make to be healthier. I didn’t prep my dinner tonight I just made it when I got hungry.

Your message made me smile because we do have those here and yes it is easy to just swing by, or just order for delivery. People think Africa means lions and no streets but it’s definitely not that way… except there is ALOT of wild animals, for sure - especially bugs! I have been good preparing the night before, like you. But it’s only 2 days. I have to stick to it! I’m expecting weekend to be more of a challenge but I have my thermos for the broth and I have a cooler bag for food to keep with me - weekends I’m forever running around outside the home and I will need to, like you say - plan ahead.

Haha well I’ve been to countries that don’t have drive thrus lol. It makes a difference! I’m sure you guys have McDonald’s. Something I miss but I’m glad I gave up! Lol are you still experiencing the keto flu? And are you in ketosis?

#12

hi Samantha. The keto flu symptoms are still here, but very mild now. (Mostly the headache today, and the nausea.) I can’t tell if I’m in ketosis using any instruments but the “breath o’death” is here along with a feeling of “burning up” which i can’t tell if its keto flu related or ketosis. I need to look through more of the forums to find out how to establish if I’m in ketosis.

(Samantha J Ross) #13

When you’re in ketosis usually all those symptoms go away (except the breath but eventually goes away) but it also depends on what you eat and how much. I’ve been getting headaches for not eating enough because of poor digestion but I can test my ketones. I bought strips you pee on from amazon lol they’re just called ketostix. When I first start keto I obsess over using them. For me, when I get back in ketosis, it’s like I wake up feeling really good and energized also my mood is much happier. I ended up with terrible digestion, but no appetite and can get by on a lot less sleep! Maybe the burning is from your metabolism kicking up ? :grimacing:

Could be the burning is from metabolism kicking in, yes. I’ll wait till all symptoms pass. yesterday i felt amazing. in terms of digestion have you tried bone broth? I read it helps. I do drink bone broth, will do that again tomorrow I don’t think I can stomach it today tho. :zipper_mouth_face:
