My boyfriend and i’s 4 year anniversary is on the 23 and I wanted to make him a nice steak dinner since we cant go out and eat. I wanted to make my favorite garlic mashed potatoes along with it. I have been on the keto diet for 3 months and lost 33lbs, i dont plan on eating a lot as my appetie has supressed since starting this diet. Do you think a small amout (1/4 cup) will do a lot of damage?

No I don’t think it’ll make any difference for a meal. Happy Anniversary, enjoy yourself as much as you can during these times, sorry you can’t go out.
NOPE! I’d even say eat a normal amount. Don’t let your way of eating become a “diet”. It’s a special occasion, we’re talking some mashed potatoes, not some brownie sundae with 5lbs of toppings on it. Me personally I can eat the starchy carbs whenever I decide to with no issues, for me it’s the deserts/sweets that cause me to fight cravings for days after. I’m sure some people are the opposite of that but only one way to find out. I think it’s good you can’t go out, I’m the first one to go out somewhere fancy for an anniversary but doing it in and cooking it yourself is a lot more meaningful. DON’T TORCH THE DAMN STEAK!
Congratulations on the 33 lbs and no, one serving of mashed potatoes for a special occasion won’t matter as long as it stops at one meal and doesn’t kick of any binge eating. If you get cravings you can deal with that the next day.

It’s very individual. Some people instantly feels much worse when eating much more carbs, others can handle it way better… If it’s just a single time, I am fine, maybe I feel worse but it’s almost nothing and it’s often worth it. But I don’t know your body. Sometimes it’s mentally/emotionally problematic, some people get triggered and the carbier days pile up (or not, they just massively overeat on that day). If anyone, you should know yourself regarding this but we can change on keto anyway. You will see. Unless you know you probably will be weak and you will mess up everything, I wouldn’t worry but not going too high with the carbs is advisable.
It probably will be fine. A small amount of potatoes sounds good to me but it’s individual and even I would eat a lot if I would feel like I can be pretty bad if carbs find their way into my life (they usually do) but a big enough satiating steak would balance things out! Hopefully it works for you too.

Bird’s eye makes a pretty good sour cream and chives cauliflower mashed potatoes. I usually add some butter, sour cream, cheese, and bacon bits and really consider them a treat. I get two or three serving per box. It’s one of my favorite foods keto or not.

I looked it up and 1/4 cup mashed potatoes is 10 g net carbs. Not bad if you can stop at 1/4 cup (I couldn’t)

Although I don’t think it will do any harm, having potatoes may reawaken your carb cravings. Some carbs (potatoes were one of my favorites - all types), are so delicious that I have a healthy respect for where they can take me. Not that we should be afraid of food, but again, for me, I just don’t go there. We love certain vegetables like brussel sprouts in bacon grease, cole slaw, broccoli in cheese sauce, etc. We stick to those because they are so delicious, we don’t feel like we are missing anything.
You can burn off the carbs after the meal if you and your friend do something physical.
