Dairy free Keto and breastfeeding

(AnnaLeeThal) #1

Tomorrow I will be doing a two week trial of dairy free Keto to see if it helps with my newborn’s reflux and fussiness. Trying to figure out if he is just a “happy spitter” with normal newborn evening fussiness, or if he has a sensitivity. Dairy seems to be the biggest culprit in these matters.

I’m scared! The last time I attempted to give up dairy while Keto I ended up very hungry and with lots of carb cravings. I have been relying heavily on heavy cream and cheese in order to get fats and keep hunger at bay. The breastfeeding hunger is intense!! I’ve already given up eating fast food, Starbucks, and at restaurants so all my food will be prepared at home.

I really enjoy eggs, so eggs fried or scrambled in bacon grease will be one of my meals. I’m thinking I’ll need to have one meal prep day a week since I can’t just grab a couple cheese sticks in a pinch. I’m thinking pulled meat, maybe a loaf of Keto bread, bacon, and roast veggies.

I hope it either makes a big difference because then it will be worth it, or no difference so I can have my beloved cheese and cream back. I feel like the first thing I will want to test back is butter.

Also quite a few savory fat bomb recipes, some have s airy though. But still some good stuff here. I’d definitely stay away from the sweeteners for now

You are probably right about the sweeteners, they would just stoke my carb cravings. My preferred chocolate does not have dairy, so I’ll still eat my two squares a day since it doesn’t trigger me.

I need to figure out a quick coffee mix in. I normally pour in heavy cream. For now I’ll do coconut cream, but I don’t love it much. I don’t always have time to do a blended coffee. Oh! Maybe some collagen?

I/kiddo didn’t have any issues with dairy when I was breastfeeding. Years later I tried eliminating dairy for two months to see if it affected how I personally feel. After two months I binged, no effect. During the two months I tried lots of nut milks n such, no likey, but I do find that straight baking chocolate melted in coffee is good (but bitter af, plus many babies dislike chocolate ).

Stay strong, your kiddo will likely get more adaptable in a few months.
