Just out of curiosity has anyone on here that is into any form of body building or just fitness in general tried a cut whilst adhering to keto diet. It’s common to cut fat and salt in the traditional way of cutting , I’m guessing to just eat under maintenance calories. With anyone not familiar it’s to just show maximum muscle growth you have achieved so you try and get a lean as possible with out losing muscle mass , and is not done for too long , just leading up to a competition or also typically used by boxers to hit a target weight before a match not that I’m doing either of these things.. TIA.
Cutting on keto?
There are websites devoted to that, but I forget what they are. (I’m far removed from my days wanting to be Arnold.) If the one I’m thinking of pops into my head, I’ll put it here.
The only real equal-ish way to cut when you’re already eating Keto would be switching to a PSMF for a couple of days a week. Can’t do it for as long because you’d go insane, but very effective. I was always able to cut down good when I did that, but the bulks took too much of a hit, which is why I switched to TKD/CKD. But still use PSMF’s now when I have to lean out a little. But if you’ve never done them, the hunger is crazy!
What a strange coincidence! Im not a body builder but was looking up exactly that topic as it occurred to me that if you want to know how to build muscle and lose weight, then these guys and gals probably know a thing or two. Anyway after a small amount of research this website seemed pretty well informed:
If you are interested in body building and body composition optimization I would recommend Robert Sikes (KetoSavage on YouTube: KetoSavage & Instagram). He has been bodybuilding for years on the keto diet. He has written book on the topic, Ketogenic Bodybuilding: A Natural Athlete’s Guide to Competitive Savagery and recently competed at multiple shows while documenting his cut week-by-week on YouTube, then his reverse diet, and subsequent bulk.
I have followed his program twice and successfully changed my body composition dropping some fat and putting on lean muscle. I do not compete in bodybuilding but I have learned tons by following his advice and I have now reset my weight at a good level. I finished a cut in December and will probably try a third cut late next year. He does not recommend doing cuts too frequently.
I wish you luck in your goals.
Thank you so much Brendan. I do a bit of gym time but am non competitive. It was just purely out of curiosity. I’ll be sure to take a look I find it very interesting.
The oldest way would be what Eugene Sandow advocated as well as Vince Gioranda and John Grimek, all adherents of LCHF WOE. Cut carbs and fat 6 weeks pror to competition. Lean protein for 6 weeks straight. But not much longer as it is unsustainible. MY lowest is 12% but I am 60. I average about 14.8% per dexascan, but again I am not “cutting” just staying fit. At 6’2" and 230 pounds I am quite pleased
