My hair fall getting worse. Yesterday it was scary in shower felt like my all hair are on floor. Tough decision but I am planing to cut my beautiful long long hair. Someone please tell me hair fall stops at some point or any supplements or diet tweaks that helps. Weight loss has been great for me.
Cutting my long hair
I haven’t had this issue with LCHF but I have lost all of my hair to chemo. Once it grew back in it was long and I felt like I was losing handfuls daily. I don’t know if it was just longer so it looked like more or what but I decided to go short and I’m in love with it. It has more body and bounce when it’s short, I’m not laying on it at night (I even tried a hair bonnet to save it from being pulled and broken) and summer is coming so maybe you would appreciate it short?
I’m sorry if you’re attached to your long hair. I understand the losing part.
Hair grows back. I bet it will come back stronger and healthier, at least mine did. The hair loss is only temporary and goes way down after youre adapted. Brush your hair out before you shower to help with the anxiety. I used collagen powder in my coffee to help that situation and after a couple weeks I noticed a difference. Cutting your hair won’t make it fall out less, it’ll just seem less noticeable so if that helps your stress, go for it… like I said, hair grows back.
You could just trim the ends first, and see how that makes you feel. Going straight from very long to rather short can feel both weird and scary.
It’s usually not due to low carb… it’s a reduction in amino acids found in proteins needed for healthy hair. Have you tried supplementing with biotin and collagen?
I’ve had great luck with this one. I have noticed 75% less hair loss in a 4 week period. I just received my second shipment yesterday.
My hair was thinning on top during my first few months of keto. I noticed last week that it has not only regrown, it’s a little thicker than it was before I started keto.
Hair loss after weight loss is usually associated with a condition called Telogen Effluvium. Fluctuation in the Body Mass Index causes physical stress, which signals the hair follicles to move into an inactive stage.
You posted recently about vertigo, I hope you got some doctor’s advice on how to deal with that. If you didn’t get some blood work when you went in for the vertigo, now is the time. You need to chat with your doctor about what you are eating and what nutrients you aren’t getting enough of.
I have long naturally curly hair that goes more than halfway down my back and every time I wash my hair, it looks like a small furry animal has exploded in my shower. Yet, I still have a ton of hair on my head. For the life of me I can’t figure out how, lol
Sometimes it just looks like a lot is falling but it’s really just the length and how you wear your hair during the day (if you wear it up, you aren’t going to drop as many until you let it down and brush/wash). I have read that you can lose hundreds of hairs a day and that is totally normal. If you aren’t noticing thin spots, it’s probably just normal. Plus, in dogs and cats shedding increases during fall and spring when the light changes and signals a seasonal change biologically. Maybe that happens in humans too?
If you are sad to cut your hair, start with vitamin supplements first like suggested. Maybe even a prenatal, other women I know had crazy hair and nail growth by taking them.
Dr. Westman can answer that for you. I lost some hair when I went into fasting long term, but it has grown back healthier and thicker than ever.
I lost about 1/2 my hair’s thickness during the 4 months of my heaviest weight loss. The hair loss was even, so I don’t see any bald spots. It has not yet regained its original thickness, but has stopped getting thinner.
I would not trade my thicker hair for the way I look and feel right now, so am considering it worth the price. I’ve had thick hair my whole life and am enjoying the freedom that thinner hair allows. Who knew you could dry and style a head of hair in 10 min.
I take prenatals even when I’m not pregnant. i also hve long curly hair and my husband always makes crack about there being a dead cat in the shower when I forget to clean it out when I’m done. Oops.
I have a giant hair mural on our shower wall … Thank God my husband isn’t all that worried about it, otherwise we might be divorced. I only remember to clean it every 3 days or so. The collagen has really helped!
I had the same issue, I shed more than our labrador in spring, it was quite scary at times i’m on my 11th month of keto and I have just recently started seeing lots of new hair growth
I stopped with weightloss in January, I’m in maintenance now, supplementing a “hair” multivitamin (biotin, zinc, etc) and I make some bone broth every few weeks - I don’t know which is helping the most
I cut my long very hair two weeks ago, I hope it’ll look thicker and healthier soon
That’s my hair too. If I took a picture of the hair I lose every time I wash it, people would freak.
I did go to doctor and he just told me to do exercise to fix it but it is not still fixed. I got my blood work done in March and everything seems fine other than cholesterol. I am still dealing with vertigo. Might have to see doc again.
In my case, vertigo is always caused by lower sodium intake. If I start to feel dizzy, I lick a few grains of coarse salt and have some water…repeat
I have never heard of this. It’s my understanding that sometimes keto can trigger a mass new hair growth cycle. The new hair growing in pushes the old hair from the follicle so it seems like your hair is falling out. The shorter hair cut will make your hair look back to normal thickness sooner than a long hair style. But the hair on your scalp will appear thicker before it looks full all the way down, maybe a year for long hair. It doesn’t seem to happen to everyone.
I started minoxidil about 9 months ago and keto six so I really don’t know what is going on with my head. It seemed to be thinning a couple of months ago but lately it looks like it’s filled in some. I don’t know if it’s keto or minoxidil that’s responsible. But I am happy that one of them seems to be working. I got a 6 month supply of minoxidil 5% from Amazon, Kirkland brand for $30 recently.
