So, last night I had my 15-month-old in his highchair, eating some ground beef (small pieces) for supper. He mostly made a mess of them. Then I gave him some small pieces of a keto cheesecake bite that I had made. I also showed him the ASL sign for “more”. He kept signing “more” (when asked if he wanted more) and then only wanted to take the pieces of cheesecake out of my hand.
Cute Keto Moment
That’s great your teaching him asl is that for him or for a family member? Or just teaching him things, I wish I had learned things younger like this
Because he’s pre-verbal I’m teaching him so he can communicate better.
I haven’t been as good at remembering to teach him as I could have been. Babies can learn ASL at a much younger age and use it to communicate than they can with spoken words. Its a great way to help them communicate before they can actually talk!
We used sign language on our kids, too. It’s great for when they can’t speak.
For some odd reason, my now 9 year old saw the sign language alphabet in a book and learned all the symbols for the alphabet and some more symbols too. She and her older daughter (12) sign by using letters and a minimal amount of words. They like this so much, we were thinking of seeing if anyone actually knows sign language, so they could have some lessons.
Maybe ask at the local community college. Some might offer ASL, and if so, there might be someone who could point you to a teacher.

My cousin has Down syndrome and as a way to communicate better he was taught asl which works great for him and his mom. He is verbal now but still does asl when he has trouble communicating. It’s great to see it being done!
I took some at local college but I lost the ability to do some since I didn’t continue practicing it, but it’s very neat! Hopefully you can find some courses for them, the one I took was actually free so it was pretty awesome!
Aww that is so sweet, and so great that all 4 of your kids are mostly keto too =).
