Cronometer ads

#1

Had no idea where to post this, hope this ok.

First, Cronometer is getting ridiculous with the number of ads. When I first started using it I never saw an ad for weeks. Was quite startled the first time one came up. Oh well, it’s a free app, I can deal with some ads. But lately they’re popping up more and more.

Second, it just played an ad with the word fuck in it. WTH? I’m not a prude, but good grief. Anybody else notice this?

Poorly targeted ads: Cronometer

Not a great marketing strategy… what was it an ad for?

#3

It was some type of game. When the ad popped up I put the phone down to take a drink. Next thing I know I’m hearing a female voice yelling about someone fucking her boyfriend. Sheesh.

(Paul H) #4

That’s so wrong… The site might be hacked.

(Alec) #5

I am thinking that is bordering on illegal. I am also far from being a prude, but I have learnt over a long and varied life that these words can be used ok when you know you will not cause offence.

But when there is a risk you will cause offence, it is FAR better not to use them. And offence is in the eye of the beholder. Unless you don’t give a fuck, in which case, you are an arsehole. :joy:

I tried the free chronometer for three days. Gave up and paid the $23 whatever for the year. No ads.

#7

I’d be willing to pay a few bucks, but not $23. I’m a cheapskate

(Empress of the Unexpected) #8

I hardly use it I don’t track anymore. Will probably cancel.

(less is more, more or less) #9

For daily use, this frugal man says this is a reasonable yearly cost. If I were tracking, I’d fork it over, as I still believe Cronometer is best for tracking.

(Allie) #10

That’s a fair amount cheaper than what it cost me to buy premium for a year and I don’t even use it anymore. Apparently the equivalent of $40.

(Todd Allen) #11

I use their web interface https://cronometer.com/ and have never seen an ad. I use ad blocker plugins in my browsers so maybe they are there but I don’t see them.

(less is more, more or less) #12

There’s a TON of great reasons to be running UBlock-Origin, to be sure. It’s also interesting to see when links lead to pages with 30+ third-party resource origins. (hint: shut the site down)

#13

AHAHAHAHA, that’s great. I’ve got the paid version so I can break the meals up by groups but seems everybody is going completely crazy with ads. I block all ads on my phone and network for privacy reasons but had my wifes phone in my hand for 10mins the other day and it was more ad than app. Their plan is working though, people are paying to not be annoyed.

#14

I keep getting ads for “Sattvic creations” and raw food chef.com. And other vegan and plant based ads. Guessing they don’t check my bacon intake. At least Cronometer doesn’t appear to be selling our data!

(Carl Keller) #15

Good point!

I’m using Adblock Plus and I’m not having to see any ads at all. It takes about 20 seconds to install on your browser. There’s also the option of paying for a year of membership which will run you $35.00.

(hottie turned hag) #16

Yeah, I’ve used adblockers for ages, I haven’t seen an ad since early 2000s. Ads piss me the eff off.
But I’m a weird kinda geek, I have 5 computers and no phone, so. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

@Screenack UBlockOrigin heckyeah!

You must be eating a lot of vegetables! I noticed that mine kicks up ads for some of the stuff that I logged in my diary a couple of times. Like I occasionally every few months eat a small carton of tofu because I used to make my living cooking Chinese food and I like it.

Every now and then the exact thing comes up as an Amazon ad in the banner. My guess is Amazon has access to our dietary habits through the Cronometer database.

(The Lackadaisical Ketologist ) #19

I have never seen an ad on this site. Thanks in large part to my using a Commodore 64 and 14.4k modem, and in part to Ghostery the greatest ad-blocker I have ever found. Just the same I would not want an ad for some kind of caloric logging app to curse at me. A motivational app, yes. A caloric logging app, no.

Would a screen refresh be commensurate with the meal intervals while intermittent fasting?
