I have a strong addiction to tea with half-and-half cream. I start my day with at least 3 large cups with about a ¼ cup of cream each which uses up more than half the daily allotment of carbs. I have tried HWC, but it’s too heavy for me and the nut milks are too watery. I have to kick this addiction (to cream) in order to bring my carb count down. Have you had this issue, and how did you overcome it? Thanks in advance
Cream addiction
I used to have to have milk in my coffee. Not HWC, not even half and half. I suspect you already know the answer to your question. It’s a mental game, if you win that your taste buds will follow. I switched over to HWC and it took time but now I prefer it. Maybe do a gradual switch with 1/2 H&H and 1/2 HWC to start.
Hey Brenda,
Have you tried different cream substitutes already? I personally really like oat milk in my cofee as I dont want to drink dairy. instead of nut-milk you can also try rice milk.
You’re right, it’s a mental game. I’ll just have to put my big girl pants on and fight it!
I do sympathize! I have a nice Nespresso machine with a milk frother attached, and giving up my morning lattes was one of the hardest things for me.
I can’t imagine cream in tea. Fortunately, I prefer my tea black, so I don’t have to put milk in it. For one thing, the citrus in Earl Grey makes milk and cream curdle!
If I can learn to drink espresso without sugar you can learn to switch from H&H to HWC. We can all learn to get better at this.
Brenda –
Occasionally, I will put butter in my coffee. I like it, but I don’t want to go too crazy with it either. What I do is use a huge mug, put in a tbsp of butter, and once I get half finished, I refill the cup, to extend my BPC.
Watering it down like that may or may not work for you. Perhaps you could refill at 2/3 or 3/4.
Or, decide that you will use 1/2 cup of creme per day rather than 3/4 cup for your three coffees. Pre mix the 1/2 cup of creme with the three coffees.
Perhaps one of those strategies will work for you.
Good luck.
I can’t drink tea without milk, so I understand where you’re coming from, & the idea of cream in tea is just yuk! I was using up too many carbs in it, so tried coffee & cream instead, sooo good. So I’m addicted to that instead!
