Crazy results on OMAD w/carbs

I started OMAD 10 days ago (strict OMAD at 7 days now as I had energy drinks the first few days, but have now switched to black coffee only)

In this short period I dropped from 183 to 170lbs - the scale dropped 2 lbs a day the first week and has now slowed to a more reasonable rate - I must have carried alot of glycogen/water

Whats crazy is I am not actually doing keto, but seem to be in ketosis. I did pasta bolognese one night, burger patty w/baked potato and big salad, grilled chicken thighs with rice and salad, etc… i cut out all sugar (ice cream addict) but still do a moderate portion of starch with each meal.

Anyways, my keto diastix the last 4 days have been dark brown. I notice they get light in the morning but before dinner are dark brown again so it seems even having a starch w/dinner I am able to get back to ketosis by late morning/early afternoon the next day.

I have tried to do 1500 calories for dinner but sometimes get full at ~1200 as I do a huge garden salad with tons of veggies and full fat ranch or caesar every night to keep up on vitamins and potassium.

Yesterday I was feeling lethargic and I took a B-complex supplement and the craziest thing happened - I got massive tingling up my spine and felt like I was on ecstasy for about 15 minutes. I peed a lot of water out the past week so I probably was low on available B vitamins, but it felt like I took some crazy drug.

Anyways, I have been astonished at the results - people noticed a change in my appearance already. I am just shocked that my ketostix get so dark the day after I ate a huge baked potato (with lots of butter). I had pizza one night too- very thin crust heavy on the cheese so it probably had a lower GI than most pizzas, but I still felt my breath change and the slight keto buzz by 10AM the next morning.

Just wanted to see if this in line with anyone else’s experience? I am really shooting for IF/OMAD, not keto per se, but if I can manage to keep in ketosis with an IF diet thats an added bonus I guess. I also do a strong ginger tea w/cinnamon, caraway and moringa after every dinner which are all supposed to modify carbohydrate metabolism, so maybe that is helping me stay in ketosis after eating a starch every night?

Thanks for any feedback/your experiences.

Don’t know for sure but I would guess you are restricting calories and that is causing the weight loss.
I eat a moderately low carb diet and fast an average of 19 hours per day. I eat a good amount of green vegetables and fresh fruits. I also eat lots of protein. But I have been eating more calories per day than I was on a restrictive calorie diet. I have lost 48 pounds since last September.

48lbs is an awesome loss! I’m doing mine for my chronic back pain so weightloss is the goal.

Do you test yourself for ketones? I was just surprised because I read people who have 0 carbs and struggle to enter into ketosis for weeks. I seemed to start making ketones in a few days even while eating carbs.

I am doing low calories, but also have a sedentary job and only manage to exercise on weekends so I thought I should be on the low end of the spectrum.

No checking for ketones, no counting calories or carbs any more. I would advise to be careful with restricting calories too low your body will see that as starvation and slow your metabolism down and you will start to gain weight while still eating a very low calorie diet, I have been there and done that.

That is a keto type of weight loss but I think the first few pounds are entirely water … but hey, good enough right?
waiting for others because I’m new lol

I don’t measure anything (and never did), but I do watch the carbs. If you think you need all those veg for nutrients, read up on nutrients in various meats, you will be surprised. If your goal is weight loss, carbs are the only things that truly matter. I have lost 125+ pounds. It was easy, and I totally appreciated the stalls along the way, as they told me my body had reached an adjustment phase. Take it easy.
