Been on keto 4 months , never “cheated” or got kicked out of keto until Sunday I tried carb cycling - where you sat 100-150 carbs one or two days and then go back to keto so I tried it for a day and mindsybwenr back to keto . Here’s the thing … im craving a sandwich or pizza and I keep thinking to myself oh this weekend you can blah blah no girl stop. I didn’t like the carb cycling the food didn’t taste how I remembered and I felt sick for a couple days and my weight didn’t even do anything . Why am I craving foods I shouldn’t ?! It’s Thursday I feel like I should be back to normal and in keto again . I don’t want to crack and eat pizza his weekend but I’m so tempted , Iv never been before
Cravings ... 4 months later
That definitely can happen when you up the carbs. The earlier into Keto you are and if you eat carbs, the easier those cravings seem to come back. It happened to me, and each time it took some effort to get rid of the cravings. The further I am into this way of eating (over a year now), the easier it is to rebound, but I also don’t eat that much carbs at once anymore when it’s that occasional choice. Yes, it can make you feel sick. Your body isn’t used to it anymore, but it’s also good to know that so you don’t feel like you’re missing out on something because now you know how it makes you feel. Yes, they don’t taste as good as before because our tastes change. You have to fight those temptations so your body gets back on track.
I thought carb cycling would help get over my plateu but all it did was make my weight go up a couple pounds for a couple days and now it’s back at where it was on Sunday . Maybe I need to be more patient since it’s only been 4 days
Some people swear by carb cycling, but it hasn’t worked for me either. I also gain and even though they say it’s just water, it’s water that takes a week for my body to get rid of. Now when I make the choice to have higher carb days, I just know that it’ll take me time to get rid of it again.
Do you do intermittent fasting? That helped me a lot.
Yeah but I kinda cheat on that because I have coffee with heavy cream in the morning and then I don’t eat actual food until noon and then again at 6 . It’s taken me about 3 weeks to become accustom to the IF. Sometimes I feel tired and dizzy but not so much as I used to. Some days I skip the coffee because I know it’s not true fasting since I’m adding the heavy cream but it’s hard for me to not have coffee - I’m addicted I get head aches lol.
Have you considered switching your eating window to be morning to noon and skip the evening meal? That’s what I’m doing now so I can have my coffee with cream in the morning too. If you’re feeling dizzy, you may not be eating enough at your meal times? Also, hopefully you’re getting enough salt. And IF shouldn’t be forced…if you’re hungry or feel like you need to eat, you should, even if it breaks your fast. IF should feel natural - you’re not hungry.
I started IF with two meals a day (breakfast and lunch), then went to one meal a day (just lunch), then was able to go 36 and 48 hours. About 4 months ago, I lost the ability to IF and was eating frequently. Just in the last month has my body felt like getting back to IF again. Now I’m between 1-2 meals a day mostly 2, and have been able to get to 25 hours again. But if I feel hungry, like last night at dinner, I eat. It’s about listening to your body. This is where your cycling is important. If you keep to just one protocol all the time, your body adapts and stalls.
