I have “started” the Keto diet. However I keep going over on carbs because I have to have vegetables. This is a craving I haven’t been able to stop. Don’t know what to do. Any input appreciated.
Craving vegetables
Vegetables allowed on Keto are usually high in fiber, are you really eating so many that it’s a problem?
Substitute a meat or a fat (or a fatty meat) so you’re so full you won’t overeat on veggies then.
Umm I could try that but when you say meat what if I go over on protein. Not being argumentative just asking.
Chances are you won’t go over on protein and if you do it’s not that big a deal; better to be over than under.
Also are you counting net carbs on the veges? Deduct the fibre content from the carb content.
how much are you eating now, fat and protein wise? and consider implementing baby spinach into your diet if that isn’t already one of the veggies you’re consuming. 3 or 4 cups of the stuff only equates to a single gram of net carbs
This makes including vegetables in your meals a lot easier if you are a stickler for hitting your carb macro.
I honestly wouldn’t sweat it if you exceed your limit (by a little) from eating most above ground vegetables not named corn. It sounds almost silly to say “You ate too much broccoli!”.
You can get full on veg a lot faster if you fatten them up with butter, sour cream or cheese. I like veggies a lot too and often crave them but instead of eating all of the broccoli in the house I have a smaller portion loaded with lower carb stuff and it hits the spot and doesn’t usually add a bunch of protein.
I always have raw veggies sitting in the fridge – red bell peppers, green onions, red radishes, broccoli, cauliflower, sometimes baby carrots – to dip into a jalapeno cheddar cheese dip.
