Craving sweets

(Jen Nichols) #1

Hi! I’m new here I’ve just started Keto diet in an effort to lower my BMI in hopes of joining the Air Force. Anyways, it’s only been a few days but I’m craving sweets so bad. Even tho I am not hungry. What should I do to curb the cravings?

Eat fat

When in doubt, increase fat.

Maybe chew some sugar free gum or have some high % chocolate?

I’m not sensitive to artificial sweeteners, so, I sip a diet soda. This may not be the case for you.

The cravings will pass —eat any keto food that you love and in a few more days you will be like wow I don’t even miss sweets, it is crazy but it works!!!

BACON :bacon:

Thanks for the info! I drank a Celsius soda it’s a fat burning soda like drink (cola flavored) no sugar and no carbs. Not only did it boost my energy but took the cravings away. What butter does everyone use or recommend? So happy I found this forum!

Kerrygold is amazing butter if you can find it.

Plugra is also nice.

Yes, I can find kerrygold. Thank you! Just saw they make their Dubliner cheese in pre slices and wheels. Thanks again

I am the only keto-er in my family thus far (a marathon-running wife who is skeptical/reluctant to face the transition period and mess up her training - and 2 kids). We eat keto-friendly dinners, and I make the rest of my meals. I’m not sure how others feel about this, but I tend to keep yummy snacks/“sweets” with natural no-carb sweeteners around so that if they are eating something carb-licious I can have something too (or just for that occasional craving). I found the longer I stay in ketosis the less I crave these things, but here are some of my staples:

  • Keto chocolate peanut butter fat bombs (no shortage of variations on these things, with or w/o nut butters, and other flavors)
  • “Keto Debbie” cupcakes (I love these): Recipe found in “Keto Comfort Food” cookbook, basically almond flour/egg white batter, cream cheese filling, and chocolate ganache icing!
  • Coconut Lime Bars (just made these - super good!)

ibreatheimhungry[dot]com has amazing keto recipes of all types (also love the Lemon Sour Cream Muffins - can’t link more than 2 links as a newbie user, but search her site)

YMMV!!! Keeping portion sizes within reason, and working out vigorously for only two hours per week (hoping to add more cardio in as the weather warms on the East Coast) I have not had any issues with the artificial sweeteners (mainly “Swerve” brand, erythritol sugar replacement) and staying in ketosis.

I know I know. When wife and I first started, we bought The Keto Comfort Foods Cookbook. We were on a prolonged fast the day we got it. She read the whole cookbook and then mixed up fat bombs, ice cream, and even cheesecake before we broke the fast at 91 hours. lol

We don’t really eat fat bombs anymore, but it was sure fun when we were trying to get fat adapted. Fat bombs made the transition so much fun and the cravings curbed. (You won’t loose the weight or lower your insulin as fast but it sure help get us into ketosis aka the easy way). Special note, we still eat pig candy (bacon, dipped in maple favoring then dipped in Chocolate, rolled in Pecans).

For those that will attack my methodology , I lost 30 pds I didn’t need to lose (I thought) and all my T2D markers are gone. I had dawn syndrome, morning BG at 170 levels…this morning 61, off all meds.

The snacks and treats were totally critical for me to get into the keto diet, and I should mention that I’m doing it more for health than weight loss, though I still could lose some. The fat bombs were especially critical as I just couldn’t fathom how to consume enough fat when I first started. I’m not a huge fan of BP Coffee, as I love iced coffee with heavy cream, but I try to force myself to do it now and then. I recently fell off the wagon for a bit, so I’m working my way back to where I was, and all these things have helped me (and discovering the 2 Keto Dudes podcast has really re-energized my commitment).

Bacon cures everything!

I don’t eat bacon, but I think this needs to be said for the funny:

In Ketonia, bacon cures you!
