Craving carbs, cold, hungry

(Jennie) #1

Fat just isn’t satiating me. I’ve been getting cold. I’m craving carbs like crazy.

What. The. Heck???

I quit losing weight after two months, I’m six months in. I don’t care about the numbers, I get there’s more going on. I wonder if I need to get the DEXA to accurately calculate caloric needs? I hold back because they’re expensive!

I’m trying to get to that “intuitive” eating stage, but with the carb cravings I just don’t trust myself.

Has anyone had these issues? I eat enough that I shouldn’t be getting cold - I would think.

The only real shift I know of day to day is starting school again and I’m having to study like mad to keep up. I am going all day (amazing keto energy) from 4:30am to 8:30pm. I just clean and study and care for my kiddies and constantly GO. Is it possible that my increased brain activity is changing the way my body needs fed?

I had to reread your post because there are parts that are not clear.

What do you mean by fat is not satiating you? Let’s start there…

I would like to know an example of what you eat in a day.

Also, have you had thyroid testing?

If you’re not satiated that must mean you are hungry? If you’re not eating enough that would explain being cold. Carb cravings are likely coming from feeling hungry.

Sounds like your life is hectic and stressful, that can impact weight loss.

Have you tried eating more bacon when your hungry?

(Jennie) #6

Heavy whipping cream in coffee, cheese, meat, green veggies like spinach a few times a week.
I have not had a thyroid test. Would that be a contributing factor?

Sorry to be unclear. I eat fat to fill up, making certain we hit our protein needs. Even though I eat fat, I still crave carbs and don’t know why the fat isn’t making me full anymore.

Yes, for some reason I’ve been hungry a lot. I eat my protein and fat and just feel hungry lately. Again, I’m wondering if the new additions to my schedule are making me hungrier. I feel like I need to eat ALL THE TIME to be satisfied.

I can’t tell if you’re being funny or serious. No, I haven’t tried it.

Could be a whole host of possibilities.

I would perhaps start with looking at your nutritional intake. Are you low on some nutrients? As an example, if a person eats nothing but bacon, it is likely there would be a nutritional deficiency somewhere in the future, which can potentially cause cravings.

This is why I try to eat liver at least a couple of times per month, as example…it’s a powerhouse of nutrients. Luckily, I love liver. And when I crave liver, I think my body is telling me I am missing a critical nutrient.

My two cents…

How much have you lost @Jennie & how far do you have yet to go? Are you diabetic? You may be running up against your basal insulin levels and your body isn’t being allowed to tap into fat reserves for energy. You may need to devise a strategy for lowering insulin.

Thank you for the input. I’m not entirely sure how much fat I would have to lose at this point to be “fit” or acceptable. I have a very large frame with some muscle, so I don’t know if I think I should be as low as the BMI charts would say. (I think I would like to lose another 20 pounds, which would still qualify as “overweight” according to those charts.) I am not diabetic. There is a chance I’m insulin resistant due to medical conditions, however I have not made the opportunity to go to the doctor to check. I will add more HIIT to my routine to see if I can drive that basal insulin down.
