Crashing after eating

(Britt) #21

Hi Helen1,

That’s pretty much how I felt too and now I will have a day or two intermittently when I’m feeling great but mostly not so energetic days now. So I’m thinking do I stay the course or tweak. From what I’m reading here and In other forums it seems that most are saying if you’ve reviewed the obvious things that you may be doing wrong with your diet and seem to be doing everything right, give it a little more time since we both seem to be in that borderline area for fat adaptation. I think I’m going to try to increase my exercise a little but leave most other things the same for the next few weeks. If you end up doing something different I would love to know how it works for you!:+1:

I think I’m going to try and stop reading everything in sight lol!! And chill for a couple of weeks see what’s happening, at the end of the day my clothes are not as tight , I eat more good veggies and meat and mostly incidental carbs always under 20g net , and I have to say I love this woe , will look forward to see what’s happening to you as well

I stalled for a little bit after 4 weeks. I recalculated my macros and cut back on my heavy cream. I went from 2 tablespoons to 1 tablespoon. I also added an avocado daily.

Hi Jennifer,

I don’t eat a lot of dairy since I know that certain dairy products make me sluggish. I do use heavy cream and I eat cream cheese in the form of tiny treats I make in candy molds and freeze with a small bit of fruit. I do wonder if I’m sensitive to dairy and it may be part of the cause for my stall. I haven’t eliminated it but I have cut back and eat it intermittently rather than daily. I feel like I’m so limited with what I can eat already that it would be really difficult to completely nix all dairy. I’ve tried substituting coconut milk for heavy cream but I don’t like the texture or the flavor in most things. I don’t eat a lot of cheese anyway so the biggest portion really comes from cream and cream cheese. Maybe cutting back will help, we shall see!

You do not have to worry about salt. Your body will naturally regulate how much you need, you will not over eat on it. It is NOT like sugar at all, you do not become addicted to it. Salt is necessary for your body to regulate itself and it can and will easily deal with too much of it.

Read: “The Salt Fix: Why the Experts Got It All Wrong–and How Eating More Might Save Your Life” by Dr. James DiNicolantonio for the research by a real expert and you will discover we’ve been lied to about the dangers of salt while we’ve been told sugar is good!

Too little salt will make you hungry as your body cannot use its food properly without it! Now, that said a few people with specific problems do have trouble tolerating salt, but it will not harm your heart as we’ve been told. There is a tiny increase in blood pressure from salt and a much larger increase in other significant health problems from LOW salt diets! Fascinating book.

I see you mentioned dairy - I found that I cannot tolerate even heavy cream, it puts me to sleep and stalls weight loss! I can tolerate cheese, butter and cream cheese.

Thank you for the info on salt. I put it on almost everything anyway😁.

Interesting about the heavy cream since I used that today to make a smoothie. About 20 min after I drank it I had to go lie down because I got that extreme tiredness and became very bloated. I get this with other foods as well but some are worse than others. I think I’m going to have to use it in very small amounts and as infrequently as I can. I looked into substituting coconut milk but read that this can also be inflammatory and cause digestive issues. I haven’t used it enough to determine if it does for me or not. I will just have to experiment!:+1:

I was using heavy cream in my coffee, thinking it was the same as butter. I was stalled in weight loss and barely able to stay awake on about 2 TBS of cream a day. I read something that pointed out they are NOT the same - the whey has been removed from the butter. I tried going back to butter and the difference is HUGE in how I feel and in weight loss. It doesn’t take much if you can’t tolerate it.

So a stall out can be a very small thing that holds you back. The other thing I need is plenty of sleep, esp as I get older. If I don’t get decent sleep, I’m not going to lose as much or feel as good. Also, if I am blah, a good electrolyte drink (you can get them without carbs) really perks me up for some reason! I do best with some veg/carbs and not so well on just meat.

You just have to experiment, take notes and pay attention, each of us are different.

If you want to lose weight, eat less fat. Your body can only burn through so much fat in a day. It will use what you put in your mouth or what’s already on your belly. The choice is yours.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #29

Fortunately, absolute precision is not required, just a general awareness of what the body needs or doesn’t need. In a healthy, low-carb/low-insulin situation, fatty acids (made from the carbohydrate in the diet) are stored in the fat tissue right after a meal, and then released gradually between meals to provide energy for the body’s needs. As long as insulin stays low, the adipose tissue can freely release fatty acids for use by the rest of the body.

That said, the body has ways of increasing its energy expenditure: it can uncouple the mitochondria in your fat cells from those cells’ actual energy requirement, so the mitochondria can burn the fatty acids and waste them as heat, the liver can turn fatty acids into ketone bodies that can then be excreted in the breath or urine, excess fat can be excreted in the feces, etc.

Lorenna,

It amazes me that dish a small amount of cream can have such a major effect. I already know that whey causes serious digestion problems and tiredness for me. I didn’t realize heavy cream has whey in it. I wasn’t using much of it either and mostly just if I drink coffee in the morning. I don’t feel tired after the coffee but I don’t feel energized either the way I hear most people talk about after drinking bulletproof coffee. Maybe the whey is cancelling the caffeine. I don’t drink it everyday but I’m going to try tomorrow with just the butter and mct oil and see if I notice a difference. It’s going to be hard to drink because of the oil but I will give it a try :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:. I’ve had very little cream or dairy over the last few days and don’t feel differently other than now my carb craving has increased:roll_eyes:. Mostly I crave fruit to the point I have to have a few strawberries or I feel like I will lose my mind. I can’t wait for this to go away!

I tried having my morning coffee with cream I found it horrible, but if I have 14 g butter and 10ml mct oil it’s delicious ! But you have to mix it in a mixer I use the nutra bullet so it’s creamy and gives me a energy boost.

I tried mine with just the butter and mct oil. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I used a frother but a bullet might do a better job. I will try it tomorrow. Thanks!
