Couple questions from a newbie

Hi folks; nice to find a place to get info on my Keto adventure…

Started keto a few weeks ago and am down 20 pounds; however, I actually gained a pound week to week and increased body fat half a percent… did I manage to accidentally knock myself out of ketosis, or is slight fluctuation normal at the beginning?

Also, my wife has IGAN (kidney issues) and can’t have a lot of protein so she’s been staying away from the keto diet. Does anybody have any experience with IGAN, and is a keto diet Disney with compromised kidneys?

Many thanks in advance!

Thanks for the reply.

I’ve been measuring body fat at the gym after my personal trainer session, so it’s possible dehydration could be a factor, depending in how I hydrate that day and during the session.

Paying attention to ratios using My Fitness Pal, and trying to stick to 2000 calories or fewer. Goal is <30g carbs per day; thinking of shooting for 20 if that’ll make a noticeable difference .

Keto is not a high protein diet, it is a high fat diet. Just take whatever amount of protein she eats now, and can eat safely, and then swap out carbs for fat.
That said I am not a doctor, so I don’t know if it would cause any issues or not… but intuitively I wouldn’t know why it would if you kept protein the same.
