Counting Daily Carb Intake

(Graham Robinson) #1

Hi all, 4 weeks in and down around 7lbs and i have a question regarding counting the carbs.

If i look at a pack of sausages nutritional info and it says each sausage contains 7.8g of carbs of which 0.4g are sugars should i be counting the 7.8g or the 0.4g as part of my daily carb intake, i am assuming it’s the 7.8 in which case i need to buy something else ?
Sorry if that’s a daft question:frowning:

I eat Italian sausage regularly, and count the 7.8. I bake it and mostly enjoy the drippings!

Count the 7.8

Thank Allie & Pete_A for your response, 7.8 it is then .

The only amount you can safely deduct is fiber, but only if you’re working with net carbs not total.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #6

And it depends on what country you’re in. In Britain, most Commonwealth countries, and Europe, the carb count listed in the nutritional information already excludes fiber, whereas in the U.S. and elsewhere, the carb count includes fiber. You do not need to include fiber in your count of how much carbohydrate you’re eating, but if you mistakenly subtract fiber from the net carb number, you will end up eating too much carbohydrate.

Not always so much the country you’re in, but the country the food was produced in as we have US produced foods here in the UK that list total carbs.
