Count calories?

(Running from stupidity) #101

“I want to remove my leg in order to lose 15kg!”

“Sure thing, here’s a saw.”

Nope.

#102

Really Mic, is that it?

The op asked how many calories she should eat.
She didn’t ask for 8 paragraphs of rubbish, and she didn’t ask for a saw to cut her leg off.

(Cindy) #103

Mememe, I’m not sure why you’re so prickly about this. Yes, I understand that you feel that Kimberly was being lectured, but really, that’s NOT the case. Everyone was just giving their opinions and trying to answer her as completely and honestly as they could.

We all come to this with different experiences, but if you look at statistics over the past several decades, CICO alone (or with exercise) has a VERY poor success rate. It doesn’t matter that you, so far, have been successful. You don’t yet even have any longevity data to show that you’re one of the few % that manages to keep it off. So each time you say “Yes, CICO does work!”, you’re not only going against statistical numbers in the thousands and over the course of decades, you’re suggesting that Kimberly’s results would be similar to yours if she just counted calories.

Remember, we’re NOT talking about a drastic way to cut calories just for the sake of losing weight. Yes, anyone will lose weight on 500 cal/day. We’re instead, talking about a sustainable, healthy way to live life.

(Running from stupidity) #104

Maybe she’d have received that if she’d asked. But, alas, she didn’t so she didn’t get it.

and she didn’t ask for a saw to cut her leg off.

It’s, uh, an analogy.

Maybe this time that point will be recognised?

#105

Hi Cindy,

You make some very good points. But she wasn’t asking any of that. She simply asked how many calories she should eat.

People have to be allowed to ask the questions, even on subjects you don’t agree with. If you don’t agree with someone elses way, just don’t reply. Leave it to those who are prepared to answer her.

#106

Can I refer you back to this part of Cindy’s reply (the bolding is mine). Calories are one little part of a very big picture & if you miss the rest of it you’re on a hiding to nothing.

(Running from stupidity) #107

It’s like someone who insists that an elephant is long and thin because the only part being considered is the trunk.

(Jane) #108

Lectures? Pitchforks? This is how you see the replies on this thread???

But yours are discussions and honest replies?

Oh my.

You are arguing for CICO while maintaining a keto diet that you intend to go off of at some future date and go back to eating “normal food”.

After you have done this for a year and CICO w/o keto please report back your results. I hope it is what you are looking for!

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #109

The answer to “How many calories shouild I eat on a ketogenic diet” is “Don’t count calories; eat to satiety and let your body handle the quantity.” You have tried your best and failed to convince us that constitutes a lecture or failing to answer the question. We have failed to convince you that we are answering to the best of our ability.

We are now all beating a dead horse. I suggest that this discussion has gone as far as it can go. I’d be happy to ask one of the admins to lock the thread, if that’s everyone’s pleasure. Please show your assent by continuing to argue.

Was just saying effectively that to someone else, yeah.

Please show your assent by continuing to argue.

I’m sorry to say… but I too, agree that calorie counting alone works. When i was a lot bigger, i did one of those famous, expensive shake program and cleanse programs(MLM) and I lost 50 pounds by drinking shakes and restricting calories. My total caloric intake was around 800-900 calories per day. These shakes were not artificially sweetened. They contained fructose and cane sugar. The had around 25 grams of carbohydrates.
So if CICO doesnt work…then how could i have lost weight? Was i hungry? YES. Was i miserable? ABSOLOUTLY but it still worked.

And in fact… if im correct…there are numerous comparison studies of different diets out there comparing low calorie to low carb and the average amount of weight lost between groups over the course of the year was only an average of 20 lbs difference in weight lost.
This is based on healthy individuals though

Point is- CICO can and does work for some
Vegan works for some
Keto works for some
HCLF works for some

Different way of life for different body types.

(Running from stupidity) #113

As we’ve said repeatedly in here, nobody is saying calorie restriction doesn’t work initially.

We’re saying it doesn’t work long-term (i.e. more than 14 weeks) for the vast majority of the population.

(Heather Meyer) #114

See… i still dont know if thats true…
For as many people that I have seen that CICO doesnt work long term… ive also seen a lot of people live at a baseline body weight by following CICO and exercise.

I think what sets apart success or failure is whst kind of metabolism and prior health history the person had before beginning CICO.

For me… i could only sustain CICO alone short term because my body is insulin resistant to a degree.
But my friend…has a healthy body and lost weight on a Vegan Raw High Carb Diet. She consumes pounds of Bananas and loses weight. She has maintained her losses…

I think more studies need to be done

(Jane) #115

The point is… are you here on this forum because CICO worked for you? No. Is your friend here because it worked for her? No, she doesn’t need keto.

I would hazard a guess that nobody would register and post on this forum if it worked for them. OP is doing keto, so not CICO as proposed by dieticians monitoring weight loss programs, who promote low fat diets.

(Running from stupidity) #116

Think all the way back to yesterday, dragon-poker…

(Jane) #117

I can’t remember what I ate yesterday much less what was posted!!!

But I enjoy my nickname!!!

(Jane) #118

I just get frustrated and sad when I see people around me I care for struggle from lack of education.

My neighbor who is T2D and is going to go on insulin shots soon since her pills don’t work anymore told me the nearest town with a hospital doesn’t even have a practicing endocrinologist!

She tells me about her snack before bedtime is either ice cream, crackers or cookies… and I cringe. And she doesn’t understand why her BGL is so high. I want to cry.

(Jane) #119

We are here quibbling over semantics and people whose health is at real risk are not being cared for out of ignorance.

Sorry - thread drift. But makes me sad.

(Running from stupidity) #120

I don’t think we are, I think we’re arguing over the basics.
