I’ve been on the keto diet since January 2018. It’s now the middle of March. I’ve only lost 9 lbs. I’ve only cheated on this diet once! My metabolism is bad, I have an autoimmune disease and take a lot of medication. Is that why I’m not really losing like everyone else on this diet? Yes, my pants fit A LITTLE bit better, but that’s it. Suggestions?
Could anyone help?
We are all different. Men lose faster than women😥. But perhaps keto is healing your health issues. 9lbs is fantastic weight loss. I gained 6 lbs the first month I started. So keep calm and keto on. Weight loss will happen. Ditch the scale. Measure once a month. It will happen.
Awwweee… Thank you! That really does make me feel better. I need to stop comparing myself to others who have dropped POUNDS and lots of INCHES. It’s kinda hard to do. But I’ll keep calm and Keto on
If you need reassurance that positive changes are occurring, get your RMR and body composition measured. The latter is done via an apparatus that measures breathing. The former should be done via a reliable method like DEXA, BodPod, or hydrostatic weighing.
RMR will confirm or disprove your thoughts about your metabolism. It can also be used as a guide for calorie consumption. Many people, especially women, find that calories do matter even on a HFLC diet.
Get the tests repeated in 3-6 months. If your lifestyle adjustments are working, your RMR should not have dropped significantly (even with weight loss). Your % bodyfat should have dropped and your muscle mass should have remained the same or increased.
If you find the information provided by a scale is disempowering or discouraging, then don’t use it. Find a tool that keeps you motivated.
Friend, you HAVE lost pounds!! Think about trying to do that on a typical CICO/low-fat diet?? You’d have failed, starved yourself, or been hungry and miserable all the time. Keto might not be working as quickly as you want it to- and that is completely fair!- but it is certainly “working” a lot faster than anything else would!
Well you have too do one of these 2
exercise + eat a caloric surplus + eat very very very little carb like at most 15 grams
=Weight loss/maintenance & faster metabolism and health and a little muscle!
Undue your metabolic damage now while you can before you get too old (not trying to be rued) and lose the weight after!
To many people focus on the weight loss. It’s about getting healthy first. It can take your body months even years to heal properly from bad eating. Put the scales away or in the bin. Focus on how you feel and let things happen.
I’m almost 60. Have been on one diet or another my entire life. I’m pretty strict with it, exercise as much as my body can handle with all my health issues, and have a very high stress job.
And honestly, I don’t eat much at all, but try to incorporate as much fat in those few meals as I can. Follow the micro/macro plan… but feel like my age and health issues might me slowing down my weight loss.
