Cottage Cheese and Greek Yogurt

(Joshua Warner) #1

I bought cottage cheese and plain Greek yogurt today because places on the net are saying they are Keto friendly. I’m lost. I bought the most legit shit I could find and both have a lot of sugars in them 5G. Should I return these and avoid them or are the ok to eat? I bought them for snacks. Thank you for your time  - Josh

PS: Also the pecans I bought had 1G sugars and I ate a handful. I’ve only been eating Keto for 3 days tho.

Nuts have carbs, yogurt and cottage cheese have carbs. Enjoy them in moderation. A spoonful of Greek on your omelet, a few nuts encrusting your grilled meat.

So even tho there are 5grams of Sugars, I could still have a serving with some berries for a night time snack and it won’t jeopardize achieving ketosis as long as I am I’m within my aloud carbs? - Just to clarify. - Thank you.

If it fits into your macros it’s fine, just realize most things do have a carb or two so they can add up to 20 net carbs really quickly. Also if you can cut out the snacking it will help with cutting down insulin spikes which is what we want to do. Try to eat 2-3 meals a day til fat adapted. Probably wouldn’t eat nuts personally, especially at first but in moderation it’s fine.

Be careful with cottage cheese as it has a few carbs. Make sure the yogurt is plain and not flavored.

Thanks guys. Yep both are plain. I realize there are carbs. So sugar turns to net carbs? I have been using KetoApp on iPhone to track macros. Most products I just scan and input quantity and it does most of the work for me.

Also I don’t really snack nor do have I been eating a meal until lunch and only have 2 meals. I get really hungry in bed at night tho and I try to fight it. I do have a snack before bed to even out my macros and calories but when I’m laying in bed an hour later I wake up after 2 hr of sleep with hunger pangs and insomnia.

If you get hungry every night then eat more, don’t worry about calories right now. Don’t worry about having fat and protein perfect. Eat til full. Eat fatty meats. Cheeses. Your body will adapt itself once your fat adapted. Only thing to make sure is that carbs are below 20g net carb, carbs minus fiber. Don’t worry about sugar in small doses. You should be finding things with very low sugar content. Meats and cheeses have very little carbs.

Net carbs is simply the total carbs minus fiber.
